My HSU VTF2MK3 just arrived. Had alittle problem with settings so i emailed HSU. Within a day Dr Hsu responded and listed out exactly what to do. So far i'm really impressed with the company and the product. Now the testing and tweeking will be done and the battle with the wife . I like more bass and she does not. Life and marirage are a compermise. Thanks to Dr Hsu and his product.

Over50 I am waiting for the same unit to arrive. Would you mind elaborating on your difficulties and the solutions. My last sub lasted 17 years so it has been a while since I've done any real setup with one and now have a new Denon AVR with Aud multeq xt. Kind of overwhelmed at the moment. I agree WAF is big with these purchase decisions. Regards.

The sub sounded muddy and not clear . I wasnt happy with the bass so i emailed HSU support and this is Dr Hsu responce. After i followed his instructions, i raised the volume alittle .The support web sight is quick, fast helpful Support after the sale is important to me. Hope this help.I was very suprised that Pete Hsu responed. I hope this helps.

Hi Sid,

Try to place the subwoofer in a well-enclosed corner that is furthest away
from the largest room openings. If you are using the subwoofer on hardwood
or tile flooring surface, use a mat or carpet throw rug underneath the
spiked feet.

On the VTF amp, I suggest connecting to one rca input, set volume knob to
1/4 of the way up, set phase to '0', set bass extension switch to '1 port
open' (making sure to keep one port plugged on the back of the unit), set
crossover switch to 'Out' (which will bypass the internal crossover knob),
set power switch to 'Auto'.

Then run Audyssey. After running Audyssey, manually flip the bass
extension switch to '2 port open' to get the highest headroom and less deep
bass heavy sound (no need to re-run Audyssey either).

Go into the A/V receiver speaker settings menu, and check to make sure
that none of the speakers are set to "Full Band / Large". Check crossover,
distance, and channel level settings too on the A/V receiver to see if they
look reasonable.

Sincerely,

Pete

This is very similar to what I did recently with the same sub - only differences is I currently have the volume at about 50%. But I calibrated it using MACC (Pioneers version of audyessy) with 1 port open/plug in, then removed the plug and went to both ports open. I was just experimenting but found it to be a signficantly improved bass experience overall

Made a fairly noticeable difference in movies imo.

Does the VTF 3.4 have any placement limitations because of its backfiring ports and side firing woofer/driver?

Now, for VTF-3, is it more important to think about placement due to ports or its driver? i.e. can the driver be as close as 1" away from the side wall.

Is it important to face the driver against or away from the side wall? Can back firing ports be less than 3" from the back wall?

Are you saying your switch is on one port open but you actually have both ports open? Or that you calibrated with the sub configured for max extension and are actually running it in max output mode?

It was an honor to meet Dr. Hsu in person today at the Denver Rocky Mountain Audio Fest - also saw his creations, the subs are awesome! Specifically, VTF-15H is huge!

Took the plunge. Ordered the Enthusiast 2 package w/ upgrade to the vtf3-mk4. Purchasing receiver tomorrow. Good times await...

Care to comment on any "show specials" they were running? Particularly the VTF2 MK3?

Trying to decide if it's worth going if all I'm looking for is a subwoofer...

Congrats man...that is very exciting! What receiver are you thinking about going with? If you go with a Denon, marantz, onkyo or integra...just be sure to get the best version of audyssey you can within your budget. I don't know much about yamaha or pioneer but I'm sure the same applies.

I live about 60 mins from their main office. I need to make a trip up there and pickup a sub locally. Only thing i really need to upgrade with my setup now.

Huntington Beach isn't an hour away from their office in Anaheim. It's much less than that...assuming no traffic.

Thanks a bunch- I went with a Pioneer Elite VSX-52. Been researching that set for months now and i've got it all set up just need to add the speakers. I got an amazing deal on it, and I'm confident it will last me if/when I decide to upgrade my speakers.

I think he forgot to mention he flipped the switch too max output...that is okay to do and has been recommended by the HSU staff.

Ah I see

Quick question (for anyone)....would a couple of VTF3 MK2's equal the output (in theory) of a VTF 15H?

I already have a VTF2 mk3 but either want to add another or get a VTF 15H but $$ constraints might limit the 15H, but not another VTH2 mk3.

Just curious as to what the comparison would be like.

Hi, I have a VTF-3 Mark 2 with a burnt out resistor. Can anyone tell me the value for resistor R427? I can post a pic if necessary. It's the resistor right beside transistor Q401.
Thanks
Also posted in seperate thread

i am no expert but i think 1 VTF 15 will have more output than 2 VTF2 mk3's

I remember Pete talking about this on the HSU forum on their website. I think he said that the 15h had more output than 2 vtf3.3's, but you should verify on the forum. It was under the vtf15h thread.
