Question...I've got a vtf2 mk3...anyone ever have both ports open but set the sub for extension (1 port open) to help eliminate port chuffing? So far it seems to work great...

From your user manual:

NOTE: Never operate the subwoofer with 2 ports open and operating mode switch set to ‘EQ1’, as this may damage the driver and void the warranty.

I have had a rosewood VTF-3R ( essentially a modern-day VTF-2 Mk4) for about 8 years, and love it. I've been disabled for some years and have moved home with my parents. We updated their theater so we now have 2 virtually identical subs.

Wow! The sound is more effortless than ever!

When most of you basically said "you can't have too many subwoofers." I was skeptical, but the proof was in the sound.

All I can say right now is this thing is HUGE! It's the biggest sub I have ever seen.

Hi, I'm a proud owner of a single VTF 15 and very much enjoying it. I was thinking of adding one or hopefully two MBM 12's to the mix. I was just wondering if any of the HSU owners could comment as to how many of the MBM 12's would do the trick. If I bought two they would both be able to go right behind the central listing position.

The desire to get the MBM 12's has been kicking around for a while, but the new Avengers trailer that came out today has given me a soft deadline for when I would like to have the ultimate base induced HT experience

Congrats with your new sub, hopefully we will get some feedback from you, once you're past the wow/awestruck phase. Speaking of huge, you should check out the VTF-15H, its older - I meant, its gargantuan bodyguard/brother

Do you have a sketch of your room. Personally, I love the idea of an MBM 12 (or pair). I think it is a clever idea and a great way to get the mid bass slam while at the same time integrating with your existing sub.

Great idea - however, what makes you want the MBM units. What is missing in the sound, or how did you figure that out? Or are you just wanting to augment the mid-to-high bass in the sound?

I think one is sufficient for output. The 12" woofer in the MBM is very efficient. With the nearfield advantage, one is all any sane person would need (who says audiophiles are sane? ). Of course if you want two, I would not stop you!

To tell you the truth everything sounds good now. I get that rumble you should get.......I just thought maybe with an MBM 12 I would feel gunshots in my chest a bit more. I'm not unhappy with what I have.....I don't even think I have my HT system calibrated correctly......I just want to add more thud to the chest

I was going to go with two mostly for symmetry.....and because it would most likely give more boom to the room. At some point I need to figure out how to dial in my system....not that I think it sounds bad.........The HSU VTF 15 just has so many options.

I'll try and get a pic up soon, it's just too late.

If you list your settings it maybe as simple as making an adjustment.

Hi All Hsu Peeps.....

Well, my 12 year old Sunfire has a terminal case of low output, so rather than trying to fix it, I decided to take a trip over to Hsu HQ which is nearby and take a listen after reading about Hsu here on AVS and hearing from my friend who has owned a VTF3 for several years. I was not disappointed...Leo at Hsu showed me all of the subwoofers and then we went into the listening room for a demo and I was quite impressed with a demo of The Hulk on both the VTF15 and VTF3MK4.

In the end I chose the VTF15 and loaded it up and took it home with me. Sure seemed huge in the box compared with the diminutive Sunfire, but after unpacking it and placing it in my family room, it's out of the way and no big deal and oh my the sound on a few demo tracks of Avatar is simply amazing. On another thread I was told that this sub would pretty much blow away the Sunfire and that is absolutely the case. It seems to be very well made and the Rosenut finish is superb as was the double box packaging. Looking forward to hanging out here and learning more about best way to set this thing up.

That is a HUGE room! How large is the kitchen? You are essentially sitting in the middle of the 28 x 30ft space, not optimal for deep bass. If the back of the sofa to the far wall of the kitchen is about 30 ft, then you can actually consider placing two 15Hs behind the sofa with no sub at the front. Face the woofers and ports at each other.

Congrats! Enjoy. Post a detailed sketch of your room and we can help give suggestions on placement. Make some measurements and we can help to tweak from there.

Thanks, I'll do that...in the meantime, quick question for you and the forum, my VTF-15H is placed on fairly thick carpet now, is there any benefit to installing the rubber puck feet on it or any detriment to not doing so? Thanks.

It is fine not to install the feet if it is sitting on a thick carpet.

Hello, dr_hsu

If I replace the spiked feet on my new VTF2 MK4 with standard flat rubber feet, will the sub move around on a carpeted floor when playing heavy bass tones, or should the 80 lbs of weight be enough to keep it in place?

I don't want to waste any time and money on rubber feet if they won't work properly.

Thank you for your help.

The VTF-2MK4 is down firing. Hence it needs 2" clearance under the sub. Not many rubber feet is tall enough. Assuming that you can find the right height rubber feet, it should not move around.

Thank you much for the info... I've been looking around for any 2" flat rubber feet or legs just in case they would work, but haven't run across much. The sub was sitting on a hardwood floor at first, but now has a 16" x 24" throw rug under it, and the spikes are currently resting on small rubber caster cups.

The kitchen is not big, but it does add to the room none the less. I like the idea of having two 15Hs behind the couch but I know for a fact the wife would veto that in a second. Moving the couch up just that little bit more would be too much. The 14in width of the MBMs are about as far as I'd like to move up the couch.

@oztech, are you referring to the VTF 15 settings. If you are I have the cross over at 80hz, phase 180, eq 2, volume at about 25% (for normal tv listining) and about 50 - 55% for movies (I was surprised at how much you can get out of 55% volume, and the wife wouldn't have it any higher), and both ports open. I go 99% movies with my system.

To tell you the truth about the settings, I have fiddled with all of the switches and knobs on the back of the sub and I can't for the life of me hear a difference. I am no audiophile or bass ninja, I don't sit around wondering if my sub has just hit the lowest of lows or if the kids down the street can hear my system. I would however like to know if my sub is set up for what I want it to do and I want to feel the aggressive rumble of a tank taking the hill and I want gunshots to feel like a thud to the chest

Just how great is it to be able to ask a question about your subwoofer, and get an answer from the owner and designer?

Those are extremely high levels! In our demo room, we only have the 15H volume up 1/2 a tick from minimum and -5 dB on the sub out of our Pioneer 1019 receiver. What is the sub out level on your receiver? For better long term reliability, you want to consider having two 15Hs in addition to the MBMs..

Can you take photos of your room? What is behind the sofa that require you to move the sofa to accommodate the subs behind it? It's only 4" more for the 15H...

It's mostly the best ever and I'm so glad I'm not farmed out to another country for "tips and secrets to subs". I very much appreciate both the passion of my friends at HSU. Thanks
