I think the buzzing was coming from a bump around the 80Hz region. As requested, here are two placement options with their respective FR graph.
Rear Left Corner:



Middle Firing into Couch:


To my ears, the rear left corner sounds better, although a little boomier and a bit localized. Much more output tough and less "buzzing" upper bass. It really gives great punch too!
The middle placement is very tactile, but I have the impression that I feel more bass than I ear.
What do you think? What EQ should I use (cut or boost?)?
