Samsung S4253 Plasma Screen Crack

Received a 42" Samsung Plasma from my employer for a Christmas bonus. Nice I know. So I've been watching it faithfully since it was delivered just before Christmas - no problems, great set.

Last night I'm watching the TV and the picture reduces to a small circular blob in the center of the screen. Loud buzzing noises scream out the speakers. I run up to turn off the television, thinking I'm getting some cable interference or something. After I turned off the TV, I notice a small hairline fracture in the internal screen. Over the next 3-4 hours, the fracture extends all they way to the bottom of the panel. The whole time the unit is turned off as I didn't watch to damage it further.

Has anyone heard of a Plasma cracking like this? I assure you I have cared for the TV meticulously, as there is no sign of physical damage anywhere on the unit. The initial Samsung repair person told me he had never heard of a problem like this before (sure....). I plan on a long hard fight with Samsung as I'm sure they'll probably go out of their way to try to prove I somehow caused the problem.

Any ideas?

this set is what, maybe a few months old now? Call up the place your boss got it from and have it replaced. Why dink around with Samsung on this one? Surely it's covered under some kind fo store warranttee for that short a period of time,,,,,,ans after they ascertain there was no abuse - as you stated - then it should be a straight forward swap out.

i to brought a samsung tv which after 5 months was also sitting watching when a loud buzzing noise came from tv and when i cut power noticed a crack had appeared on top right corner of screen,reported to currys who came and took tv away then now saying i need to pay £1300 for repair as tv suffered physical damage when crack is internal not external..huh so now they wont repair and also samsung wont help either so im supposed to be out of pocket now and am going to have to take it to court......who else is having this problem???

Being Old, guess I have seen just about everything. And being in the TV business for a zillion years, I have seen CRT screens - crack and instantly implode - about 3 times if I remember correctly. This was back in the day when color picture tubes were going from "round" to "rectangle". At the time Motorola and Sylvania were amoung the first with mass produced rectangle screens, and yes there were problems. These were "new" sets, taken out of the box and were playing for less that a week before they failed.

Glass is not a solid or a liquid, it is a state in-between. As strange as it may sound it is more liquid than solid. It does move very slow..........and the warmer and hotter it gets the faster it moves (no we can not see it).

If the crack is internal, start taking pictures of it now. Before it spreads to the outside layers - that way you have a better case in proving your point.

The service man should "write" on the ticket the crack is "internal" for documentation. He may not even know what he is seeing...........but if he documents it in writing you stand a better chance.

THEY WILL DENY YOU TOO!
On the 49th day after purchasing my Samsung PN50A450 it made a loud pop and the INTERIOR glass cracked from corner to corner. The screen when black and now it just makes a loud humming noise. Two techs sent by Samsung came out and inspected the TV and reported to Samsung there is absolutely NO PHYSICAL DAMAGE. After almost 8 months of arguing with Samsung, sending additional pics and even having a tech take the tv apart...... they say sorry that this problem is unheard of. They concluded that the TV must have physical damage and it is not covered under warranty. I'm out well over a $1000 plus they made me pay one of the damned service calls. I have contacted an attorney and we are looking for people to possibly bring a class action lawsuit against Samsung. I looked up on the internet and found SEVERAL people have experienced the same exact situation and are getting the same answer from Samsung, Customer damage. They are denying that the problem with their product exists by actually going to extreme of covering up the problem, blaming the customer, and stating there is no way for this issue in their product to occur. I have contacted an attorney we are attempting to put together a CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT!! Please contact me at nixster411@yahoo.com to join this cause.
