What do you think of this setup?

I'm about to purchase a home theatre system and I thought I should run it by some AV experts to see what they thought first.

I'm looking for a fairly good system that I will use mostly for surround sound and occasional as a stereo system (for parties). For the stereo use, I want to make sure the system is quite loud, has good bass, and has very minimal distortion at high volumes. I'm looking to spend ~1200 bucks. So far based on my research, it looks like this may be a good system for what I'm looking for.

Harman Kardon AVR645 receiver
Infinity TSS-1100 speakers.

Do you think these speakers will complement this amp very well? If not, any other system recommendations in my price range. Thanks in advance for any opinions.

Spend a few more bucks and get a SVS sub - it will take a lot of stress off the receiver amps at high volume - and it will ROCK your world. Even the little PB10-NSD ($429) will make a huge difference. Get the PB12-NSD if you can afford it, however.

$400 seems to get you a pretty good sub. I built one from a Parts Express kit for around there, and it was a pretty good sub for a few years, but I did have a problem with the sub amp eventually.

Anyway...

I would not spend much more than $400 on a sub for yor needs, but you should defintely look at a sub unless your speakers have a built in powered sub.

Thanks for your input.

What about the Infinity Primus Theater Pack and a SVS sub? Looks like the sub will kick but, however, what about these speakers? I read some good reviews, but will the HK 645 have too much power for them? Should I look into the HK 445?

Ditto. Plenty of power for small to medium rooms (and that's at about 50% full volume).
