HDMI to VGA

Is this possible without a scaler? I have HDMI output into a monitor that accepts HDMI - D* HR20 into an LG Flatron 37" - however I think I may have damaged the incomming HDMI conector when installing a mount.

HDMI worked fine until the mount installation and now it cuts in and out. So.... figuring I have messed up the HDMI port I now have to look at alternatives.

I am not that happy with the Component picture and am thinking if I can go HDMI out to DVI then out to VGA into the LG(which has like 4 VGA inputs).

Do I need a converter or scaler, or will I be able to do it just with adapters and cables?

Thanks,

Mark

You shouldn't, but the picture improvement from Component to VGA may be minimal.

The quality can be quite good- there are excellent video DACs that run 1080p no problem. Just consider that PC graphics chips have RAM DACs that run almost 2x the speed of 1080p today in the cheapest graphics chips.

However, converting from HDMI with content protection to some without CP (like VGA or component) is not allowed due to the HDCP license, so you won't find such a device commercially available.
