M&K Owners - What are you going to do?

This is not a "SKY IS FALLING" thread...

I've owned my M&K setup for almost 3 years now and enjoy it very much. I have 3 S150's, 4 SS150's, and 2 MX350's in my HT. When I purchased them, I considered the Klipsch THX Ultra 2 system, Genelecs, Mackies, etc. Basically the popular pro-style studio monitors known for flat frequency response and accuracy.

Obviously my M&K's perform just as well today as they did prior to the appearant closing of the company and I still enjoy them greatly. In all honesty, I've yet to hear a speaker that gives my the urge to upgrade, BUT, I can't help but think that the resale/trade-in value on M&K's are going to be negatively impacted unless the company is purchased quickly by an organization committed to the same high-level of quality, warranty, and customer service and most improtantly they honor the warranty of previously purchased products - 10 years on speakers and 5 years on electronics.

Again, before anyone makes a point of it, all M&K speakers and subs provide the same level of performance and enjoyment today as they did last week, that's not the point.

So enjoy them and don't worry about it. In my conversation with Barry Ober yesterday, I seemed to get the impression that they were trying to figure out how to deal with the issues you bring up. I think the drivers that M&K uses are pretty standard, so I think you should be able to find replacements if one of them blows.

I'd wait until they update the web site before jumping to any conclusions.

So what's going on here, I can't find news of this anywhere but here at AVS. Is M&K such a small blip on the radar that this is not news? Surely with the impact they have made on the Professional side of things there would be news somewhere about this.

I do remember hearing rumors somewhere, perhaps here, that Klipsch or some other large speaker company was looking at purchasing M&K.

I'm anxiously waiting for some official news about what's really going on.

Although the drivers are made by some other well known company (I forgot which but I have it written down somewhere) I was told by M&K customer service that they were specially made for M&K to their specs.

I was just thinking....all the webpage says is that they closed the Chatsworth factory, nothing about going out of business.

I wonder if everything is moving overseas, or getting sold to another company.

I've been in that position, when Fosgate Audionics was acquired by Harman International in 1992 and I was national sales manager. As the master of understatement that I am, let me tell you that things "didn't work out too well."

Maybe I'm just being optomistic but it could be that they've just closed their domestic factory (or maybe just the Chatsworth facility) and moving production elsewhere or overseas, not necessarily closing the company as a whole.

I noticed they have a new warning on their site regarding fake M&K products, I doubt a company going out of business would be worried about protecting the brand and it's reputation. Although if it were being sold to another company it would make sense.

I'm still optomistic and hopeful this isn't the end of M&K.

Usually, when they do what you say, they still need a marketing group, sales group, customer service group: they laid off EVERYBODY. You think they're going to move the CS over to China too?

I certainly have nothing against M&K, but in this business, you innovate or die and I haven't seen much new in the last 10 years.

Name and logo bought, nothing at all similar beyond the name and logo.
