Ooch my TVs signal hurts!

I will try and keep this simple.
Very small town (<2000 population)
no control over my cable provider (apartment)
next nearest city 120 miles

Okay, so we get about 28 channels and most are okay at best. However the Discovery channel is nearly unwatchable.

If the picture has anything very white then all you hear is a loud scary scratching that drowns out all audio.

So can anything help? Boost the signal or ??

Alpine, Texas --- take a turn once you past the three brown cows and drive until you run out of gas, then your here.

you do have gas stations right?

Ever heard of DBS ? As long as your balcony / patio can see south / southwest (or you can place your dish in a window that faces that direction), your landlord can't say a thing.

Not an option. Dishes are not allowed.

I really just want to understand why the white part of the signal is transmitting very loud trash audio and how I can fix it. Is anyone here experienced enough in broadcast transmission to understand the problem I am describing?

Certainly can't say anything about it being in your window though, if that's a possibility for you.

Dishes are so allowed - read my sig (provided you have exclusive use area to put it). Certainly, it can go in a window...

If one channel of analog is overmodulated.....whites are blooming badly, and the audio is hit with buzz, it's probably a misadjusted modulator at the Cable headend. The Cable company should fix it, but maybe no one else has complained.

Is this a SMATV system, where the apartment complex owns the whole system? With only 28 channels, it sounds like it might be. If so, you and the neighbors ought to all call them about it. One or two complaints might not get their attention.

Kenglish - Thank you
Yes all of us (apartments) have the same problem. I don't know if it a SMATV system , or even what that is, but we only have a single cable company in town.

So would it be a problem that our local company can fix, or is it an upload error from Discovery channel?

So in case no one here locally can fix it, can I do something on my TV or add a inline filter thing to fix it? Reason I ask is that I think the Discovery channel has been like this for awhile now.

It must be fixed locally, at the headend. Nothing can be done at your set.

I contacted the local cable company but they act like I'm speaking a foreign language. "Fixed Locally" is that my local cable company or someone else?

Oops sorry, here is the cable company or provider.
