Robert, does the A20 do 1080P 24 ?
and, will there still be an firmware upgrade for 1080p 24 for XA2?
Thanks!
steviec, The A20 may come out doing 1080p 24/60 Hz or it may just be upgraded like the XA2 will to enable 1080p 24fps.

I may be able to disclose how Toshiba engineers are going to pass 1080p 24fps from the disc to 1080p 24 Hz compatible displays. I'm just polishing up my notes and getting final permission to disclose the information.

After all DTS HD is just a codec, why couldn't any of the hardware chips be able to handle an additional decoding algorithm? The hardware would only have to decode one or the other application's code so no additional processing power would be required.

News flash, Update!

In a conversation with Toshiba software developer manager tonight I found out that we will see the DTS HD decoder intergraded in HD DVD players soon.

Other than a couple of foreign region free HD DVDs that have DTS HD audio encoding I don't see any reason why anyone would care about DTS HD. We have Dolby Digital lossless TrueHD, nothing is better about DTS HD audio.

Anyway DTS HD decoding is coming to HD DVD players in a future firmware upgrade, now all we need is for some US titles to incorporate DTS HD audio.

Is that DTS Master we are talking about, or the lossy version?
muzz, yes, sorry I am working from home and do not have my notes with me. We are getting DTS Master audio.

Robert, can you answer my question post #47. Thanks Chris

Awesome...the A20 seems to be the way to go. I have a Sharp Aquos 1080p set coming and at under 500....helll $400 after the movies its a no brainer. I'll have to shift the A1 to my bedroom set even though it will be a little large.

Robert one of my fellow claims HD A20 to have silicon optix and HDMI ver 1.3? can you please verify so I can order one too??
A HD DVD player with true 1080P/24FPS out and Reon chip is what im looking for.

If only the price will be right im gonna buy it.

Just hopes the the 24P process dont get screwed up. 24P-60i-24P isnt an ideal solution.
Is this coming to the A1? Or has Toshiba decided not to ever bother with their first unit?

It isn't? So the order I placed yesterday will still work despite the confirmation e-mail showing a date of 2/27?

Yes, and technically we could go by your in-hand delivery date and be in honest in doing so.

If I may tag along, for Robert or anyone else, will the A20's HDMI 1.3 support "Deep Color"?
[didn't think the A20 would have the Reon. ]

I see the A20 supports "DTS HD", does that infer DTS Master?

Just wondering, haven't read the entire thread, why is this replacing the A2?
I can see the feature difference, just I thought the A20 would be priced between the A2 & XA2. Thanks.

(is there a better thread for A20 info?)

When will this be released again? I have pretty much decided that THIS is the next HD DVD player for me.

Robert:

I am sending you a PM.
