Narrow theater seating

I did about 3 hours of research on this website (and another 20+ on google), but cant seem to find a thread focused on "narrow" theater seating. If there is...can someone please steer me in the right direction?

I have a new theater under construction which is 12 feet wide by 24 feet long. I would like to have 3 rows with maximum butt space.

Dont want:
- Mount-to-floor standard movie theater seating
- Flip up portable chairs (like at costco)
- Couch

Want:
Row 1: 4 seats (<=124) - leaving a 20 inch walk-way
Row 2: 4 seats (<=124) - leaving a 20 inch walk-way
Row 3: 5 seats (<=144) - no walk-way

The best I could find thus far is: http://www.greatchandelier.com/GREAT.../D1/60089.html These provide ~21" butt space.

However...this set ONLY comes in 3 and I am not sure if I could split one set up and make it 3 rows of 4 (buying 4 sets). My concern is just pushing the 1-arm unit against the others without mounting/attaching it. This also does not give me the 5th chair in the back. BTW...these are NOT real leather (I called the seller).

Does anyone know of a chair which is no more than 30" wide (30x4=120")? I am also open to the no-arm configuration where a row of four has a double-arm on far the left, a double-arm on the far right, and two no-arm units in the middle (4 butt spaces, with a total of 4 arm rests)---saving a whopping 4-6" on this config.

Thanks!

Check out the Berkline 088, 086 and 45004.

While the 45004 is a bit larger, a row of four of the 088 or 086 measure 112.5" in a straight row configuration. One seat, with two arm rests, is 31.5" wide- not quite the 30" you're looking for but it may work. You can play around with Berkline's online planner to possibly get a configuration that might work for you. Here's the link:

http://www.berkline.com/secure/planner/intro.html

They come in Leather/Vinyl match and all leather and in many custom configurations.

I have attached a configuration that is 104" wide and might work for you.

Great info! Just as you say...these would definitely fit my requirements!

Unfortunately....I just thought of another constraint: $$$

I realize that "you get what you pay for"...but I had hoped to keep my cost down below $3000 for seating (~$230 per seat).

Thanks for the help!

I like the ikea leather chairs and ottomans. I have similar problem and found the MALUNG
Swivel chair works great. Very comfortable.

Berklin 088's are the narrow'est I could find, I to have a narrow theater room 13x22. I purchased one row of 4 consisting of loveseat in the middle and chairs with arm rests on both sides. This works great, overall length I think is 108". Berklin's web site has a seating program so you can design your own set up, it works great, and the seats are of very good quality.

Pestudy: What chairs are you referring to? Does IKEA have theater seating? Do you have a URL?

Break..Break...

Ken and Merv: I really like the Berkline 088 as well. It meets all of my requirements and then some. However...it is much more than I had hoped to spend.

Here is where I currently am looking: http://shipyoufurniture.com/ecommerc...at-p-1092.html

Thanks everyone!

Sully,

The 2 pictures you posted are of the same seating...they are the "Matinee" by Coaster & they only come in brown & black vinyl & brown microfiber. Do some research on here regarding this model. I found the microfiber setup at a local "model home" store, slightly used for less than $400, but when I sat in them I felt they were just ok, the arms feel a bit too low for me, like the Coaster "showtimes" & they did creak like others on this forum have complained about. They also were not wall-savers...in full recline It looked like you would need a foot clearance behind them. The microfiber seemed to be of normal quality.

Having said all that & the price I would've been able to get them at...I still passed on the deal, mainly for the creaking in the backs & the wall clearance.

I have also sat in the 088's & for a narrow seat, these are the best that I have tried(for my taste) & I do believe you can get them in microfiber for less than the leather. The good thing about Berkline is you can get different configurations like a row of 4 with a loveseat.

Just FYI...

I truly wish I could afford the Berkline 088 for all the reasons everyone has stated. They are PERFECT except for the price. In my opinion, they are overpriced. If Coaster had put a little more quality into the Matinee's, they would put the Berkline 088's off the market.

Unless I can find a STEAL on the berklines, I will have to settle for the Coaster Showtime Collection (I'm active duty AF and the BX carries Berkline...so I still want to check with them).

I have two quotes thus far for 10 Showtimes (3, 3, and 4), including shipping, for just under $3000.
1. Do a search for "amgoodsgalore" on EBAY.
2. http://shipyoufurniture.com/ecommerc...irs-p-156.html

Anyone know of any STEALS on the Berkline's? I would love to get 13 of them (4, 4, and 5---with loveseat in each row)!!!

There are two very good sources on this forum for Berklines. You should check with Roman at Ultimate Home Entertainment and Serge at Home Theater Authority.

It is extremely unlikely you would find a better price than you will with either of these guys.

I'll also give another vote for 088s, which I have and love.

It sounds like you are really trying to seat as many as possible. May I ask why you don't want theater type seats? I fit six theater type seat in about the same area as four recliner type seats. You can always mix and match.

Joseph,
I will spend a ton of time in my theater (also XBOX 360 room) and do alot of entertaining. So...I really want comfortable, decent quaility, leather (with foot rest) chairs.

My current theater is my bedroom. I have an HD72 with about a 78" screen (painted on with screengoo). I spend about 80% of my non-working hours in there (either watching movies, HDTV, or XBOX). I have fished the walls and put in a very nice surround sound, and the works. My bedroom is currently my favorite room of the house. Only problem is....I cant entertain in my bedroom (at least not since I got married wink*wink ).

So...back on topic....even with the BEST pricing possible on the Berklines 086 or 088, I dont believe I can get them for under $300 a piece (I would like 13). I can get the showtimes for $230 a piece. I am willing to pay more for the Berklines...but not $300 more a piece (difference of over $3500).

I pride myself on being a GOOGLE MASTER and dont believe that I can get the showtimes for less than $230 each.
With the Showtimes you would have to go with rows of 3/3/4 as they are too wide for the 4/4/5 you would like. But with what you are looking to spend that is probably the best option.

I went with the 088s specifically due to the width, and there really were not many other options that I could find (especially at a reasonable price).
Why not go comfort instead and do rows of 3, 3 & 4.

"go comfort"??

Being that I have decided NOT to go with the Coaster Matinee's because I am worried about quality. And I am NOT going with the Berkline 088/086 because of cost. And I am NOT going with old-style traditional theater seats because I want comfortable/reclinable seats. As far as I know, there are NO other narrow seats on the market. That rules out my 4,4,5 plan.

Now I am looking at the Coaster Showtimes in a 3,3,4 setup for $230 each.

Try dafeng theater seats. I got mine from there and love them, plus there was no shipping and handling charges.
If I remember correctly the cost for any dealer purchasing Berkline's theater seats from Berkline is going to be over or close to what you want to pay per seat/chair...so you aren't going to find anyone selling them for the price you want...especially if you want leather.

We have the 088s. Really like them. My screen is a tad low, so I coudlnt go with the 45004 (at least not on the front row). Highly recommend all the Berkline HT chairs.

Sully,

I, too am in the same boat as you...my room is 18.5' x 12', has a side entrance & the back wall has an angle that reduces the length to 90"...so there is no way for me to have the huge seats...I would like to have 2 rows of 3, but then I am limited to basically the Berkline 088's or the Coaster Matinee's & Showtimes...

I am glad I am still in the construction phase of it, so I don't have to think about seating just yet...& maybe something better/cheaper will come along at a later date.

Hey...have you sat in the Showtimes? If not, you might look for a local retailer...I thought they looked nice & were the right size, but when I tried them out...I did not like them at all...This is just my opinion & others on here do like them...but I am glad I did not just buy them without trying them first.

What are those seats? Coasters? Visually they look good.

For Coasters, I whole-heartedly recommend Serge. Great price (I bought at a power buy), and he is VERY service minded!

Yes...those are coaster showtimes.

I understand you are not really interested in the lift-up mountable seats, but have you considered doing leather in the front row for your comfort and a couple of rows of theater seating on a platform behind the leather for when you entertain?

Well....I have 5 living in my house...and weekly we have another 2-3 couples visiting. So...I would feel BAD if I jumped on the cushy seats and told them to sit in the standard (mounted to floor) seats.

I have ran a bunch of scenarios through my head and came up with either:
A: Find a solution BETWEEN the Coaster Matinees and the Berkline 088/086 in cost...while maintaining size.
B: Go with the Coaster Showtimes. Cant fit as many seats...but these are quality leather seats.

Thanks everyone!!

When doing a cost/benefit analysis on the matinees...you really are getting a LOT for your money. And being that I don't have even one recliner in my house at this time...I can only imagine that I too would be very satisfied with the matinees. My thinking is this:
1. A few complaints about squeeks
2. A few complaints about the recline mechanism
3. A few complaints about the comfort
4. Not leather---could lead to premature wearing---I will be in my theater daily

I am sure I would love them on day one. But I want to love them on day 1000 as well. So...being that I am still active duty, I cant afford the berklines, I am left with the Coaster Showtimes. I think this the best compromise for my situation.

Sully
Granted my matinees are brand new--but they do not seem to squeek and that is without the support brackets in place as I was missing screws....

The recline mechanism seems very smooth and easy right out of the box...

As to wear--I can't comment yet....

Good luck on your choice! For me this was a frivolus indulgence to a basement theater so it more than makes me happy--but different folks have different levels of expectation....

I too am limited, even more. I have 85" to work with.

I found another expensive solution at Costo, the Jade Theater series:
Pros:
- only 28" wide per seat,
- can be configured HOWEVER you want, they are detached units.
- sold individually or as a triplet set with glass tables.
- 100% leather (not match)
- available in Black (Onyx) or Red (Rouge)
- returnable for a full refund including shipping at your local costco.

Cons:
- no cup holders (hey we're saving space here)
- $900 per seat (ouch) (add $300 for the 2 tables in the 3 pack)
- unknown wall clearance (they are getting back to me on this)
- 4-6 weeks shipping

Black
Rouge
Just search the site for individual chairs priced less, but without the tables.
I have a room similar in size to yours and did 4 seats per row with two love chair configs. They are the berkline 086 series and I have plenty of room. My room is 12' 4" wide.

config: |00| |00|

We love it so far. There is really no reason to do recliner configs with separate armrests and cup holders because you would not use the additional cup holders.
