What do hotels use to get the new movies that may still be in the theater?

Hello all...I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this question but does anyone know what this device is? I don't even know if this would be available to purchase for anyone that would want it for their home but I would like to have it. I have stayed in quite a few different hotels that have this pay-per view type feature that lets you get the newer movies that are sometimes still in the theater or have not yet been released on dvd etc... Sorry if this type question has been asked but I did a quick search and really didn't even know what to look for...I usually only hang around the speaker/amp etc... sections so I don't even know where to begin to look...here maybe... ?

Thanks for the link...do you or anyone else know if there is something like this that anyone could buy for their home? Does anyone own a device like this?

I am pretty sure its all private transmission, generally via encrypted satellite. Or it was 10 years ago when I did an audit of one of the now defunct operators (merged into another company).

They would pitch to hotel operators a deal where they'd install the equipment, tv's, everything, and a level of service, then take the lion's share of the PPV revenue. Most of the money was from x-rated stuff.

probably not. Hollywood uses a "window" system to determine when a movie will reach certain markets. It goes something like this (though I'm sure it isn't 100% correct):
First - 1st run theaters
Second - PPV, 2nd run theaters
third - cable tv (starz, hbo, ...)
fourth - DVD
fifth - broadcast TV (not 100% sure about this)

I think the lodgenet folks of the world get 2nd window. there are all sorts of contract requirements for each window and companies that have access to a given window pay serious bucks for the privilege.

short answer - not available for the average joe. at least not today - I think the internet is seriously changing the balance of power and expect a more direct to the consumer model to emerge.
