Samsung BD-P1200

I just got off the phone with ******* as I placed my order for the new Samsung BD-P1200 due out in March. They don't have a date for when they'll be in stock, nor how many they will be able to get at first, so I thought what the heck. It's being sold for $799.00. ..the same as the MSRP. As of now, it is not listed on their site, nor anyone else's site for that matter. And on Samsungs site...it's still listed for March, but no date. Hope they won't delay it.

PS...if it's not appropreate to list the site, I'm sorry.

Is it common to not give a date so close to the release month? I am interested in this player also. My local best Buy lists the price as $1300. Go figure.

coops75....where is your local Best Buy ?? $1300.00...that's insane. The MSRP is $799.00. Either they have it listed wrong or possibly you mentioned the wrong model number. The new Samsung model number is BD-P1200 and due in March ( hopefully )

I live in a college town and nobody working anywhere has any idea what wor is going on. I don't mind until someone thinks they know what they are talking about, but don't. I told this kid the msrp is $799 but hey, he works at best buy and he knows best.

I sent my my BDP-1000 in for warranty repair work back in January. It's been sitting in the repair center waiting for a part to be shipped from the factory ever since. Today when I called in to get the status, they indicated that they still have no ETA for the replacement part. As a result, I was finally able to get my ticket bumped up from the first line support folks I've been dealing with to the ECR level which has the authority to issue replacements.

Since my original unit was a refurbished unit, I was fully expecting to just get another factory refurbished BDP-1000 sent to me. However, to my surprise, they offered to send my a brand new BDP-1200 straight from the factory if I was willing to wait a few more weeks for it. I figure after waiting nearly a 1-1/2 months that another two weeks won't kill me.

According to the ECR representative, they've allocated a unit from the factory line to ship directly to me as soon as they are available. The date he gave for me for the shipment was March 12. He said I could call back and get a tracking number for the shipment at that time if I wished. It remains to be seen if they actually have one ready to ship when I call back, and I'm not sure how this date translates to actual retail shipments...but it might at least give some indication.

Hope this helps.

I was hoping they would be available in time to get Casino Royale.

Does anyone know if it will output 1080p24 and support all of the audio codecs?

Fyi., I have found that TV Authority, eCost and Buy.com have them listed for preorder.

byancey....sorry to hear about your problems. But in the end I think you'll get a better unit. About the middle of the month sounds like a realistic date...at least it give me a date to look for.

Just got off the phone with Samsung Executive Customer Relations regarding the status of my replacement player. I was informed that the BD-P1200 has been delayed a month. No specific release date was available though.

Can't say I'm terribly surprised, but it does put me in the position of making a somewhat difficult decision. They said they can send me a BD-P1000 directly from their refurbished stock now, or I can wait another month (or more?) for the BD-P1200.

Bummer.

^ wait for the BD-1200. Sorry to so so, but it is a much much better BD player.

How about a PS3 as a second player/game console while you are waiting.

Now that is a great result, good for Samsung. My refurbished BD-P1000 works fine so I will not be so fortunate but more importantly for Blu-ray, let's hope the BD-P1200 is a much better player.

Funny you say that. After I posted my update yesterday afternoon, I actually came to the conclusion that this was a pretty good excuse to pick up a PS3...which I did during my lunch break.

I didn't actually buy any games, as I intend to use it exclusively as a BluRay player for the Home Theater. I figure if the PS3 works out well enough in this role, I could actually sell the BD-P1200 before I even open the box (we'll see how that works out though ).
