The Official Sony 2007 KDS-(XX)A2020 [NO PRICE TALK] SXRD Owner's Thread

I got my TV a week ago (50A2020) and have been enjoying it immensely thus far. I can post some pictures, but I have never joined one of those picture sites and I haven't taken any pics yet since I haven't had time. I'll do it as soon as I can though. At any rate, there are too many threads out about these new models, and it seems like it would be better to have a single thread.

Notes:
These A2020 models appear to be identical to the A2000 models except for the black cabinet.

It's still unclear whether or not there have been any internal changes since the A2000.

The list prices are a bit lower than their predecessors.
50A2020 $2299 50A2020 at SonyStyle
55A2020 $2499 55A2020 at SonyStyle
60A2020 $2899 60A2020 at SonyStyle

Many stores are getting them in stock, but I got mine from 0neCall, and they currently have all of them in stock (2/28). Crutchfield also has them in stock.

Let the discussion begin! I hope we all enjoy our TVs!

Does Sony put a version number on the software in its service menu? If so, I wonder how the version number on the A2020 software compares to that for the A2000.

Has Sony had any "official" press releases on the A2020 series? Or should we expect nothing from them on this, since apparently the only change from the A2000 is the cabinet color?

I sure hope there was a petition to have the '07 SXRD be without dumbo ears. The A2020 formfactor and coloring looks perfect...

I'll take one A2020 with the guts of the '07 SXRD please.... ps 60" model is fine... Thanks you Sony.

That's ideally what I want, as well. But if Sony isn't going to do that with the 2007 sets, then I'll just go ahead and get an A2020 soon. I wish I knew what Sony is planning for the summer releases. I would wait and pay extra for an XBR3 or an A3000 if it had the features that I would prefer.

I have to think sony will be sticking to the A2020 form factor, or a close variation. The A2000 sets are no longer being produced (correct?), so I imagine they will not take a step backwards in the new design.

Anybody seen any of the A2020's at local Fry's yet? I'm trading sets this weekend and would love to get a 55A2020.

Thanks,

Jim

Just got mine delivered today, and I'm loving it.

One question, though. How come it gives me no control over the deinterlacing method for 1080i content thru HDMI? With my XBR1 I was able to choose between CineMotion, Mode 1, and Mode 2.

Also, any word on if this set correctly takes film 1080i content, and makes it into "true" 1080p, just like the XBR's?
I'll be grabbing one of these once i see some good reviews.
I was looking at the A2020's and the A2000's. The A2000's where cheaper because it wasn't black but otherwise the TV's are identicle. So I picked up a 60A2000 yesterday. My 60A2000 and my PS3 make for an excellent relationship. Games look stunning. The new Tekken Dark Resurrectionis in 1080P is so clear it hurts your eyes. I'M IN LOVE

Can I get some in depth picture quality reviews? I am getting a 60A2020 to replace my defective 50XBR1, thanks.

It looks much better, and this is coming from someone who went through 4 optical blocks on an XBR1. I knew what a "good" picture was supposed to look like on an XBR1, and this looks even better. The thing that stands out to me the most is a more detailed, sharper picture. This doesn't mean increased blocking, but just more detail. There's clearly some better video processing hardware/software in this new set.

i ordered a 55a2020 last night through best buy and it'll be ready for pickup on friday. the only thing that sucks is that the stand i ordered won't be in until sunday. i guess i'll be watching tv from the floor for a couple days. haha. they won't have any floor models until march 15th or 18th but they're indentical to the 2000's except for the cabinet. they conveniently had the 60" a2000 and the samsung 61" 87w side by side. i set each tv seperatly to what i thought was the best picture (took me about 40 minutes of trial and error) and 7 out of 9 agreed that the sony looked better. 1 of which liked the samsung better because he had just bought it 2 weeks ago and another that wished he had gotten the sony instead of the 56" samsung. also, 1 person saw a little bit of the rainbow which i could not see. i'm pretty excited to get the tv and hook up my ps3 to it. resistance will definitely look killer and i'm set to pick up motorstorm tomorrow and the reviews say that it's the best looking game on the ps3 (so far). i'll keep u guys updated.

^^ My local BB still tells me the A2020's are not in their system I'll try again this weekend. I just got some 12% off coupons off in the mail for this weekend. If anybody can come across a SKU for a 55A2020 from BB I would appreciate it. I will probably hit BB Friday sometime.

motoman, those guys are full of sh*t. either that or they're all total morons. they can look up the tv in the system w/ a2020. that's how we did it. if they say it's not there i have my receipt and order inquiry in my hand as i type this. sku # is 8242298. if there's another BB that's not too much further i'd go there. the place that told u they can't find it doesn't deserve your business. it definitely was NOT hard to find. give your money to some one else. good luck w/ that.

Thanks for the SKU I appreciate that. I'll go over Friday when my 12% rewards coupon is active and give the SKU a try.

Thanks,

Jim

I doubt it will work but...
Has anyone hooked up a 1080/24p source yet to see if it works?
I am between the sony (60a2000 or 60a2020) and the jvc.

As far as I know, Sony is keeping the same stand as the A2000 models. I just bought it as well - it looks pretty good actually with the black TV on top.

I just picked up my 50A2020 today at a local store, Swapped a cloudy Sony 40V2500 for it. I half to say the 50A2020 has the best picture ive ever seen and im very picky. The color is very vibrant with natural looking fleshtones and the picture is razer sharp, The black level is also great. I am not sure if it converts 720p and 1080i to 1080p but I know HD from my Comcast HD DVR looks amazing and better then the 40V2500 1080p set which i know doesn't upconvert. I also have my PS3 connected threw HDMI and games look amazing. Anyway I highly recommend it.

Yeah it's sweet! Do you have any black specs on your screen? Get something on your screen that is white or very bright, then check.

I think what your seeing is the silkscreen effect which all rear projection lcd tv's (and dlp, lcos) have. Its the special projection screen that causes it. It bugged me a bit when I first noticed it but it will only bother you if you let it, You really half to be looking for it.

Just took a screenshot, This is the 50A2020 Displaying a Bikini Destinations Blu-ray disc threw PS3, I think the disc is only 1080i and the picture is a bit sharper then this pic. I can also take cabinet pics if anyone is interested.

It won't. On this line of TVs, 1080p is only over HDMI.

Ok, took delivery of a 55A2020 today. Setup went without a hitch. My dad was over and helped me a bit. He has a 50XBR1. My initial impression of the picture quality was that it sucked. My 32" Samsung LCD had more detail. I Have a HD Cablebox/DVR with King Kong in highdef and was really disappointed. That's when I realized I was an idiot. I have the cablebox going through both HDMI and Svideo. The Svideo I use with certain digital channels that are 4:3 but letterboxed and have that input set up to zoom(NGeographic) so I don't have to change the zoom mode on the regular TV stuff. Anyway, you guessed it, I'm watching input 1 S-Video, the whole time thinking this is nowhere near what HD should look like. I kept wondering why the HD King Kong had black bars all around the picture. It was because S-vid only passes 4:3 so the HD was letterboxed and then I when I zoomed in it was, well I'm sure you can guess.

So now that I got my head out of my . . . this TV is stunning. Wow. I haven't even changed any settings yet so it can only get better but man this is good. Just thought I would share my experience so far for those of you about to pull the trigger on one of these.
