Thanks -- that helped a lot. I had turned it on based on someone's post in this forum, but turning it off got rid of all of the artifacts I was getting on NFL games.

The only problem I'm having now is that WGN's HD feed of today's Cubs game is just horrible. Most of their HD broadcasts are fine, but today it looks like I'm watching the game through a dirty window. Every other HD channel looks great, so it's an issue with the feed. And by the way, last night's MPEG-4 test on D* looked absolutely stunning -- can't wait for the full channel release.

Can I get some opinions from you guys please? I'm looking to purchase asap. I have DishHD and an XBOX 360 Elite. I'll be gaming ALOT. I have been known to play for 10+ hours straight. That's why the plasma worries me. Does the a2020 suffer from any burn-in? I'll also be watching alot of movies. Viewing angle doesn't matter to me. I always sit in the sweet-spot.

Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks guys!

I also wanted to ask, what viewing distance is best for this set?

It has an excellent picture; and with a 24p Blu-Ray source the jitter typical of credits on a movie (the only place I ever notice this anyway) is gone. But the 4:3 window did NOT have the "perfect" geometry my A2020 does ==> as noted by several posters on the A3000 forum, it had a slight bend towards the top. Not the severe pincushioning typical of Samsungs; but nevertheless not the "razor-straight" lines my A2020 has.

I DO like the fact the A3000 has 1080p on its VGA and composite inputs; but my HTPC works perfectly via DVI-HDMI on the A2020, so I simply don't need those. If I need a 3rd (or 4th, or 5th) HDMI input I'll just get a switch; or a new receiver with a bunch of HDMI inputs.

Bottom line: If I was buying new and could get either for effectively the same price (say within $200 or so), I'd buy the A3000 just because it's newer and has the 24p support and 1080p on the other inputs ==> but I'd be very critical of the geometry and return the set if I got one with the issues many have noted. But if I had a chance to swap my A2020 even for a new A3000 ... I'd pass Simply not worth switching.

After repeated attempts to try to solve my green and pink blob/haze issue Sony has offered to replace my 60" A2020 with a A3000. Not having seen the 3000 I went down to the local Best Buy to check it out.

They had a 60" A2020 and a 60" A3000 on display side by side. I didn't notice a lot of difference in the two. They both were playing the same feed. The picture on the A3000 looked slightly better. It seem to be a bit sharper. The colors were noticeably different but I can't say one was better than the other. I didn't see any of the geometry issues people have talked about but I didn't see any 4:3 material on it. I did notice the ghosting on the 3000 that has been mentioned in the owner's thread.

Has anyone on here had success with getting Sony to buy back their set after repeated repair attempts? I want a refund but they are telling me my only options are continue with repairs, a new A2000, refurbished A2020, or new A3000 that I'll have to wait a couple weeks for.

Sony bought one back for one forum poster; but only after he had allowed them to replace his set ... and it also turned out to be defective. So you'll probably at least have to accept a new set first -- and then if it also has issues they MAY do a buy-back.

Although I noted in my earlier post (which you quoted) that "... if I had a chance to swap my A2020 even for a new A3000 ... I'd pass ..." ==> remember, that was a comment based on my current A2020 -- which is working perfectly. If I was having problems and in the position you're in, I'd go ahead and accept the A3000. But I would be VERY critical of any geometry issues with it. (Essentially the A3000 is a newer, improved version of the A2020 in most respects => but has the potential geometry issue because of the slimmer cabinet)

I just wanted everyone to know that I bought the KDS-55A2020 last night at Costco (it's like a Sam's Club/BJ for those that never heard of it). I got it at an astonishing deal (I think anyway). I got the TV, the SU-RS11X (in black), 2 year warranty, and a 90 day return period all for $1699!! I was hell bent on the 60" but decided it wasn't worth it to pay an extra few hundred bucks for 5". When I took it home the 55" is more than adequate. Also the stand by itself is usually $400-500 online. Bottom line I'm VERY HAPPY with this purchase and the picture quality is amazing to say the least.

I did have one question, however. I don't know if it's bleeding through, a reflection, or just the lamp coming in from the back of the TV, but I sometimes see a white light in the middle on the screen (only when the screen is black). I'm guessing it's a reflection as I can see it when the TV is off.

The reflection in your screen is normal to all RPTV's. Light from the room is bouncing off the mirror inside set and showing on your screen.

Dave - There is no burn in for these sets. Also, I'm sitting about 10' from mine and it is fantastic. I HIGHLY recommend this TV. I researched my purchase for about six months (all types and brands) and settled on the 60" a2020. I could not be happier. Good luck.

Good price Only you can decide if you're willing to pay extra $$ for the larger picture [a 60" is 19% larger than a 55" and 44% larger than a 50"].

The light you're seeing is clearly just a reflection -- as you've already figured out

No burn in.

Unless you sit really close (6' or less) the bigger TV is going to be better. For about 7', the 50" is perfect, if you sit farther back, go bigger.

Just an update...........

I wound up swapping out my 3 week old dead 50A2020 for a 55A2020 for the $200 difference. I wanted to go to the A3000 for $500 difference but out of 5 3000 sets i saw on display, everyone had the bad geometry issues and the PQ difference wasnt noticable to me.

Hopefully this 55 will last longer than 3 weeks ...... lol. Or if it is going to die........ it will do it quick. This TV will be running alot during the 1st 30 days for a good stress test!

Yes, for my XBR1 but only after going through two repairs and a replacement (which eventually went bad). If you get your set repaired you'll get a letter from Sony's VP of Service (Mike Ehlers). He is the person you need to plead your case to. But, you're unlikely to get a buy-back option until you've gone through at least one, possibly two, repair attempts.

Jeez, and here I was starting to wonder if maybe I should have spent the extra cash on an A3000, or waited for them to come down in price so I could get the 24p playback (which, previously, I was unsure of whether or not it actually did natively) and now I'm hearing about ghosting and geometry issues. Perhaps, then, I've actually dodged a bullet?

Maybe, they'll iron out some of these issues with the A3030's, and then I can dive in.

OK, I've come to a decision and will be purchasing the 50" A2020 on Friday. I had it narrowed down to a few different sets but when I went in and looked at the A2020 again this evening I was impressed. I'm so excited. I hope my 360 will look as good as I think it will.

PS: Thanks to all who've contributed to this thread. Its been a great help.

I've been a "lurker" in this thread for a little while now. I have an issue riddled Samsung HLS6167W that my retailer has kindly agreed to take back. I have the option of another Samsung or a KDS 60A2020. At this point I have decided on the Sony. I am positive that the geometry of the Sony will be better. The Samsungs are still exhibiting bowing of displays in the showrooms.
Since no retailer I have been to will display SD pictures on their HD units, I am worried that SD could be worse on the Sony than it was on the Samsung.

I am sure there are Samsung dumpers reading this thread, so my questions are....Anyone sorry they did it? Everyone glad? What can I expect from the Sony with SD compared to the Samsung.

I know there are readers out there who have been where I am now, please help me get my head straight with this.

* Particularly interested in DIRECTV SD displays. Thanks

Hey everyone:

I've owned the 60A2020 for 3 months now and so far I've really loved it. Lately, I've been wondering how much more improvement I could get from having this set professionally calibrated by an ISF trained tech.

Has anyone had this done to their TV or have given it some consideration? (If this topic's been covered, please forgive me, I missed it).

Would love to hear your thoughts. Thanks!

Jimmy

Does anyone know where I can find some info on the "best settings" for this set? I wanna be ready tomorrow. I'm so excited I feel like a kid at Christmas!

Turn all the processing options off. Set gamma to low, color temp to warm2, turn the color down some, and set the brightness to get the best blacks.

Is it tomorrow yet?

When I was looking I just walked up to the TV's and switched them to 4:3 aspect ratios Had to be sure I knew the menu structures (a bit of online research in advance) ... but nobody kicked me out of the stores

But you need not be concerned ==> the A2020 is MUCH better than the Samsungs. The 4:3 windows are razor straight; and the SD Picture Quality is excellent.

Always refreshing to hear something like this, especially after i kicked myself in the ass for not waiting a month to get the a3000. I can't live with poor geometry...I love my a2020 and am glad I got it when I did now!

I guess I will throw in. I just got this TV yesterday. I've been wanting it for about a year, and it replaces a Westinghouse 42" 1080p LCD. (LVM-42w2)

Comments: It's a lot bigger. It doesn't seem as "sharp" as my old LCD, maybe because the pixels are bigger? The SSE is bugging me a little bit. To be honest, in all my research, I didn't know about this effect. I'm hoping with calibration and some tweaking, it won't bother me anymore.

It seems a lot better for movies, with the higher PQ (contrast, black levels) and larger screen. For games (PS3) it doesn't quite have that same feel, and it's there the SSE really rears its head (especially on solid white).

It's obviously an awesome TV, I bought even being aware of the color accuracy problems, which don't bother me terribly. SSE so far in games is problematic, though perhaps not a deal breaker, since the enhanced movie experience is what does it for me.

Put it into power saving mode and then adjust brightness/contrast with a calibration disk. This reduces SSE to a minimal level (you usually won't notice it unless you look for it).

Is this the best thread to search for 2020 tweaks or is there a another thread dedicated to that?
A quick question: as one of the guys at Sam's Club, who was loading my new 60A2020 on the truck, picked it up off of the cart, he dropped his end from about 1.5 feet. It was still contained in all of the packaging. I assume that these crates take much more abuse than that during shipping and stocking, and I haven't seen any problems so far. Should I be concerned? I could have had them get me another one, but they would have had to use a forklift to bring one down from way up high, and I thought they could actually do worse in that situation.
