What will you be importing in March to combat the US software drought?

**NOTE: This thread is NOT to talk about audio and/or speedup issues**

Well, it seems there will only be a handful of titles released in March for HD DVD here in the US, but Europe will get a healthy stream of good titles.

I just found out xploitedcinema.com will be carrying Two Brothers (not yet announced by Universal) and might be importing that title.

Here is my list of March purchases if things go as planned:

Total Recall
Terminator 2
Two Brothers

I've been waiting a while to order Total Recall, but wanted to wait to get it with other titles. I don't usually spend much money on releases at all, but for these 3 I'm willing to pay a little more this one time. By April hopefully the US has a steady stream of releases.

Brotherhood Of the Wolf

because it will most likely be a loooooooooooooong time before we see a high def version stateside.

I'll pick up Mulholland Drive if the reviews for audio and video are good. I don't see anything else that is a must have for me except harry Potter and I wait for the US version some time this year.

Terminator 2
Mulholland Dr
Brotherhood Of the Wolf
The Graduate
Arizona Dream
Serpico

already own:
Total Recall
Basic Instinct
Rambo
Rambo II
Rambo III

I'm leaving Serpico on order until Tony finds out about subtitles for sure, he said he'd check each disc to find out before they ship.

According to Xavier from Microsoft, Serpico and Three Days of the Condor are both titles that have forced subtitles:

Studio Canal releases that will have optional subtitles with English audio are those titles for which SC also has UK distribution rights.

I have the following on order:

Terminator 2
Mulholland Dr
Brotherhood Of the Wolf
The Graduate
Arizona Dream
Leaving Las Vegas

Not so much because of the lack of current U.S. titles...but because they're not even so much as rumored to be available here anytime soon...

Drought? I havent even purchased all of the titled I want nor have I watched all of the ones I have..Not all here are rich people with money to burn. However, if I was in your place I would probably focus more on video gaming with the Xbox and listening to more music - there are only a finite amount of free hours in the day.

I would also recommend "The perfume" and "Renaissance"

Coming out in Germany and France in March. Renaissance features also english audio. Not sure about "the perfume" , no details on audio yet.

I was looking at the company credits on IMDB for the Lord of the rings movies and there seem to be a myriad of European companies that have distribution rights. Does anybody know if any of these companies are producing HD DVDs? Will this make a European release more likely?

I just imported 5 HD DVDs from Amazon.com because of the Germany software drought!
We don´t even have Superman Returns or Batman Begins or Harry Potter 4 yet! Talk about a drought when you can´t even get the reference titles yet!

Apart from "The Graduate", I´m not sure I´ll buy any of the upcoming Studio Canal releases. I haven´t seen most of these movies, unfortunately.

Good excuse to rent the ones that look interesting - on SD DVD or on HD DVD if one of the German rental companies is already listing HD discs.

I've discovered several films that I like by going through the list available on the HD formats (quite a few of which I'd never seen before) and renting them.

That's just silly. Get the Blu-ray version from WalMart now for 25 bucks. It's got PCM audio. Better quality than DD+ by a long shot. I can see importing HD DVDs if they're about the same price and they're at least the same or better, but honestly, Xploitedcinema has already purchased them from Europe, so the support for HD DVD is already won. The only reason to do this would be pure spite against Blu-ray, and you'd be the one who would lose out on audio quality and by paying more.

That's just silly.

There are a lot of people here who don't have BD players.

This is the HD DVD forum, you know.

Yeah, $25 + $800+ for a player...what a deal!...

Thanks, like many others, I'd rather import...

If you can afford to import a bunch of HD DVD European titles, you can afford to pay 500 bucks once for a player. If what you're concerned with primarily is quality, then why sabotage yourself by settling for DD+ when PCM is available? Look, I'm 100% for buying HD DVD instead when it actually counts: off Amazon.com, or local stores, but when you buy them from an importer, it does nothing whatsoever in that regard.

ANyway, sorry. back on topic, I'm undecided; Mulholland Drive looks really good, and I may go for Harry Potter and the Pianist as well.

Completely off topic. You're not going to convince us. There are those who have chosen not to support Blu-ray. Yeah, it's a shock...but it's also the truth.

Importing makes a lot more sense to me. Even if I spent 10x as much on importing, I'd rather import. It's not only about saving money...

When you're right, you're right. Back ON topic, I heard mention earlier in the thread about Gangs of New York. Where was this rumored? That's one of my favorite movies ever, and one that I would import in a heartbeat.

When did I say I would be Importing this title? I buy from exploited as they have very good service. I didn't know exploited had already purchased this title!

Once again I don't own a Blu-Ray player, in the future that may change.

I don't need to import, there are plenty HD DVDs I would like to own which I haven't purchased yet.

Quality is primary concern. Value is almost tied to it. I want extras. That means HD DVD.
