12 year old bose speakers

Thread Starter
Hello,

Total newb here. I own a pair of bose satellites and subwoofer that I purchased 12-13 years ago. For years i used a JVC surround receiver that was touted as Pro Logic 5.1, however due to my ignorance at the time, the center channel ISN'T amplified, so i've never had the use of a center channel
I want to go to a 5.1 or even 6.1 system but I don't want to do "theater in a box" . If at all possible, i would like to utilize my current speakers. (financial constraits) I am looking for a receiver and a center speaker (i'll add the rears at a later time).

Anyway, i don't have any documentation on my bose speakers, and I need to figure out what i'm looking for in receiver specs. I just don't want to blindly purchase a receiver only to find that my speakers will explode or won't be compatible with the receiver. Also, i want to make sure the physical connections are okay as well. The speakers do not have "connectors". they are the exposed grounding wires.

I'm not a big audiophile or ht freak, but i don't want to plug all this in and say "crap", i wish i had done a little more homework.

My current setup is such:

42" Panny LCD High Def 1080i TV
DirectTv HD receiver (hdmi out)
XBOX 360
Philips Prog Scan dvd player
DirectTv standard def dual tuner TIVO

2 Bose Satellites and subwoofer.

Thanks for any guidance that anyone can provide.

Please read some of the following thread to find out why it will be very difficult to find a center channel.
Why not bose?

You could sell the 2 bose speakers and get a matched set that you would like much better.
