Nyko Wireless Sensor Bar

Picked up this sensor bar yesterday at Gamestop (C-bus, OH) and it works flawlessly with my front projector setup. Comes with the 4 needed batteries. They supposedly last for 30 min of gametime. Has an on/off switch (with a small blue LED so you know its on or not). Has a timer that you can set to off/1hour/2hour to remind you to turn off if you want.

Like I said, works great. I have a 112" diagonal 2.35 screen, so about 90" diagonal 16/9. HIghly recommended for $20! Feel free to ask any questions.

Gamestop/EB Games has it in store and online. Supposedly Walmart carries it to (its on their website).

Is there plans to come out with one that plugs in? I don't need wireless, I just need one that just has a plug in it. Because I have plugs at the front of my theater room, just not, my wii.

I'm in the same boat. I'm contemplating cutting my wii sensor bar and building the DIY one listed elsewhere on the forums, but I'm much prefer a store-bought solution to this.

Hi,

Im running a 120'' diagonal setup with my Optoma HD72. I sit about 15 feet away from the screen. The sensor bar is on a 1.5 foot tall stand, about 3-4 feet away from the screen. It seems to work fairly well but i would like the larger range that this sensor bar can provide. Just a question, where do you mount the sensor bar??? directly below your screen? on the wall?? or a few feet away from it? and how does it work??

Neither my local EBgames nor the gamestop one town over had this in stock (or even knew what it was).

I ordered it from ebgames.com. Should arrive tomorrow. Will post feedback.

To the guy with the post above about AC powered sensor bar: there's another homebrew company (Nextronics?) that has one that runs on either battery or AC power. But the other small paypal only company - wirelesssensorbar.com - never delivered and I had to wait for paypal to refund me my $30, so I'm not willing to try another little company.

I'm using an Optoma HD72 @ 115". I have a small 2-shelf bookcase under my screen that has my center channel speaker on it. I just put the sensor bar on top of the bookcase (so it's a few inches underneath the screen). I used to have it on the sensor bar stand but my little girl knocked it down once and must have run off with it, because I haven't seen it in the months since. Even without the stand it works fine.

In my opinion, the sensor bar to projection screen orientation is not important. What is important is the sensor bar to natural controller level orientation. You want the sensor bar to be level, or above the level at which the controller is located in your natural playing position. This is important for natural cursor based movement so you don't have to point the wiimote down.

I have mine mounted on top of my center channel speaker in my home theatre.

I'll be looking for one of these at my local gamestop or EB. It's worth the $20 just to have one less thing to carry back and forth between my HT and living room when we move the Wii back and forth.

I'm using an Optoma H77...good taste you Optoma guys

Anyway, I have my sensor bar sitting on top of my screen. I have a Carada screen and the frame is 1" thick. The sensor bar sits perfectly on it. You can barely notice it. Below the screen (on my center channel speaker) didn't work as well b/c I have 2 rows of seats. I usually sit in the 2nd, thus the back of the 1st row was obstructing the sensor bar from my remotes.

I don't know about a "wired" version. I just bought rechargable batteries for the bar and my remotes, so just a one time investment. I have outlets by my screen too, but didn't want anyone to see a plug ya know?

About not carrying it back and forth. I agree. I bought the componant cable and now a wireless sensor bar. Those are in my theater room. Now I have the standard sensor bar and the video cables in my bedroom (50" DLP). I'm thinking of ordering a 2nd power cord...then all I have to do is move the actual Wii from room to room. I sometimes like to play with my Wii in bed ya know Funny sentence.

Enjoy!

Substitute "living room" for "bedroom" and I have pretty much the same scenario.

Wait til you see the reaction when you ask your friends if they want to come over and play with your Wii.

I'll be moving the wireless sensor bar from the projector to the 37" LCD in the corner sometimes in the daylight. So similiar sort of thing going on here.

I actually did order an extra power supply from Nintendo (and sensor bar, component cable, stand). I reguarly move the Wii between my living room and HT. It's easy as pie. I highly recommend picking up the power supply. I went all the way and even bought the stand for $5 more. It just looks cooler that way .
At the same time, I have one setup that's easy to disassemble so that I can pack it up easly. I bring it out with me more often than I thought I would.

I picked up the Nyko wireless sensor bar yesterday afternoon. My local eb games didn't have any in stock, but the gamestop (which is literally 4 stores down in the mall.. both created before the merger obviously) had 1 in stock. I'm happy with it.. works well with the projector. I was going to do the AC mod, but the way I wanted to do it with a project box, a light, power switch, etc, it was going to cost me around $20 anyway.

I received this bar a few days ago, and I hard wired a power adaptor to the battery terminals so I can plug it into the wall. It works great...except for 1 issue.

I have a 135" 16:9 firehawk, and we play about 10' away from the screen. I have the sensor bar mounted about 6" above the screen, angled down towards the seats. It works great when pointing in the middle of screeen, but when I point near the edges, it gets very very jumpy.

I am going to try some other locations (like below the screen) but right now, I am having an issue related to my location. Any suggestions for optimal bar placement? The bottom of my screen is about 1' below where the 2nd row seat height is (where we play)

thanks.

I picked one up at my lone local Gamestop that had it in stock. We burned through 3 sets of the IRs on our DIY bar, so the $1.79 each was adding up. So far, it works very well. My son had about 6 friends over yesterday & they just moved it from on top of the center channel speaker (below the 100"+ screen) to the top of the screen frame as needed, depending on which game they were playing.
He seemed really happy to have it, especially since the Wii came tumbling down to the floor a couple weeks ago when someone pulled on the sensor bar wire when sitting down.
This $20 will (hopefully) save us from a Wii breakage... $20 & convenience vs. $250 Wii & heartbreak... it was a pretty easy decision.

I just have a question ...

I just moved to a new apartment and started playing my Wii there. I am sitting farther back now than I was at my previous location. However when I sit back in my couch and just lounge back to play, and since I'm not sitting back further, the sensor wasn't picking up when I was pointing at the screen. So I now have to lean forward while I game, which isn't too comfortable.

I'm wondering with this wireless one, does it give you much more distance that you can have between the screen and you actually playing? I know it is advertised as 25 feet, but I would like to know from people who have actually used it.

I may go pick one up after work and wanted to know, thanks.

Will two sensor bars work, spaced apart?
JC,

I believe (someone correct me if I'm wrong) the Wiimote is looking for only two points of IR light. So if you left both bars stock, it might get confused seeing 4 points. If this did happen, you could always just cover up one 1/2 of each of the two sensor bars. Or disconnect one of the IR LED's on each of the bars, if you didn't want it drawing power.

Now the bigger question is how much benefit will you get from separating the two. I know some folks here say it works much better, others are comfortable with just the standard bar. If you do go forward with this, let us know what you find works for your situation.

Have fun,

John

Just to revive an old thread...

Does anyone know what the "best" sensitivity setting is when using the Nyko Wireless Sensor Bar? With the Wii set to sensitivity level 3 (the default), the cursor is very jumpy and can't reliably be controlled. When set to 4 or 5, it seems much better, but it's not clear what the difference between this two is (i.e. which should be theoretically better). Is level 5 the most sensitive or least sensitive? And what are other folks using in terms of settings with this sensor bar?

anyone know how to ramp up the power on this?
I sit like 13 feet away from the tv and my wireless bar doesn't seem to reach
it will pick up at 10 feet but that means I have to get up to play which is fine for tennis but it would be nice to site down to browse the web but it is just so shaky

I bought the Intec bar. Why? It uses two less batteries and works just as well.

Have you adjusted the sensitivity (in the Wii setup menus)? With the Nyko sensor bar at sensitivity 3, the cursor shakes quite badly, but at 4 or 5 it settles down nicely. I suspect that a higher sensitivity setting is actually *less* sensitive, since the Nyko bar seems to have a much better output level than the standard Nintendo one. I'm sure it's been discussed before, but I wanted someone in this thread to mention their ideal sensitivity setting with this particular sensor bar.

This wireless bar is quite useful, but I found the bar turns itself on all by itself. Anyone else find that? I set the timer switch to the various settings, made sure it's completely turned off etc. but it still switches itself on for no good reason and drains batteries..

Never seen that, no. Have any small children or cats?
