It'll be interesting to see if Emerson will continue (or start?) to manufacture the 7 series TVs with the same specs. I'm not holding my breath as Emerson usually sells "lower end" products under it's own brand name so I hope they don't reduce the level of quality of the 7 series sets if they try to reduce expenses during production. On the plus side for consumers, 47" set prices have come down so much, that a 7 series would easily retail for under $1K. Second tier 47" LED backlit sets are supposed to sell for $1500 or less by the end of the year. I would assume that margins would be razor thin for any "updated" or "refreshed" 7-series models, so we may not see the 7-series in it's former glory.

On the other hand, one can always create a wish list :-)
- Matte screen (no reflections!)
- Matte frame (same)
- Thinner, less power consumption, etc
- Lighter
- Latest LCD panels for improved view angles, contrast, etc
- Keep the HQV processor (or better yet, use a newer version of the Realta that generates less heat but has same/better specs)
- IMPROVE quality

Warranty Page? That is interesting.

I agree, and I'd like to see the 765 updated too (was it called the 765?).

I looked at Amazon and they have 1 65" Olevia left.

All, what settings for Xbox360 video configuration are appropriate for this tv? I believe the first setting pertains to what range of color values are passed, the options are

Standard
Intermediate
Extended (or similar)

The other setting is for which color space is sent, the options are:

Auto
RGB
YCC709 (HD)
YCC (SD)

Anyone know? Thanks
I always left mine on 'Auto' and 'Extended Range' under HDMI options (sorry can't remember the real name) and it looked amazing. Otherwise I'd use YCC709 since it's for HD signals.

The warranty page still only goes to December 2008. I mailed a warranty card in March 2009 and it was returned three months latter.

Yes, it looks like the Warranty section is time limited to last year. I had the same experience recently when I attempted to register my Olevia 26" LCD that I purchased on web. The firmware update section and the 800# Customer Support appears to still be working as noted by another contributor in 32" Olevia thread.

I wonder if Emerson will reactivate the name and warranty site? Past articles on Emerson indicate Emerson discontinued manufacturing LCD tv's back in 2003 and currently the sets are rebadged FUNAI LCD sets. FUNAI is spreading its wings - it now sells under the Phillips, Magnavox, FUNAI as well as Emerson names.

Greetings all,

Has anyone ever seen/heard of/acquired a set of schematics/service manual for the 747i model??

Thanks.
I've tried local "good luck on your chinese TV" and an internet site that searches the net for manuals with no luck in four months.

Which port are you trying to use on 747i?
I use the VGA port and it works great. That is the only option BTW if you are looking for 1080p from the Xbox.

Well, as sure that a working setup can be

Both of MY HDMI ports on the 747i are taken by PS3 and my Comcast box. the Xbox had to go somewhere else and after some research it turned out that the VGA port was the one to go as that seems to be the only port that the Xbox can provide 1080p on.

XBOX does 1080P over Component also.

The 360 can only output 1080i max when connected with component cables, which is good enough when the Realta HQV in your TV can decode anything and make it look A-OK. I ran the same high-def movie ("The Host," a super-sharp and detailed flick) out of an HD-A30 Tosh HD-DVD player at 1080i (component), 1080p and 1080p/24 (both HDMI). I couldn't tell the difference between 1080i and 1080p/24, on the 747i they looked fracking identical. So 1080i component on the 747i from the 360 is a winner in my book; it's how I play my 360 games and watch my HD-DVD movies (with an HD-DVD add-on). VGA is also available if I want to. It's good to have options.

P.S.: when you guys mention 'XBox' (no 360) I'm assuming you're talking about the XBox 360, right? Because the regular XBox can also upscale up to 1080i with component cables on a handful of select games coded specifically for it (the "Dragon's Lair" action game comes to mind). Component = 1080i max on both XBox and XBox 360.

Sorry dudes. You are both wrong.
The XBOX 360 DOES support 1080P over the component cables. I know. I used to have an XBOX 360 without HDMI. I had it set to 1080P. NOT 1080i.
This is taken DIRECTLY from the XBOX website: http://support.xbox.com/support/en/u...egory=hardware

Steps to connect an Xbox 360 console to a high-definition TV

1. Turn off the Xbox 360 console.2. Connect the audio-visual (AV) connector on the component HD AV cable to the AV port on the Xbox 360 console.3. Set the HDTV switch on the AV connector to HDTV. Note Only set the switch to HDTV if the TV supports high-definition resolution, such as 480p, 720p, 1080i, or 1080p. (1080p became supported after the November 2006 Xbox LIVE update.)
4. Connect the red, green, and blue RCA connectors on the component HD AV cable to the corresponding color input jacks on the high-definition TV. Do not use the yellow RCA composite video connector.5. Connect the red and white RCA audio connectors on the component HD AV cable to the corresponding colored input jacks on the HDTV. 6. Turn on the Xbox 360 console. From the System section, you can change your display and HDTV settings. Select the appropriate high-definition video setting for the HDTV.

Nuts. I think my 747i may have just died.

The blue light is on, but when I hit power, light goes goes off "click", and then right back on.

Anyone experience this? The TV just won't turn on. I tried unplugging it for a while, no difference.

Am I screwed? God I loved this TV.

Yeah, pretty sure I'm screwed.

Found some Olevia users with similar problems, said most likely cause is bad capacitors.

They spoke of being able to "jump start" the Olevia via USB but I have no male - male USB cables lying around.

Apparantly this will work for a while until they're done for good.

This guy's flickr page explains how to switch them out:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/geegee1...7607269121264/

(different model, same concept).

I've never used a soldering iron... I have done some tiny tweaks on my elec guitar amp to tweak the voltage but not sure I'm up for it...

Might give it a try this weekend but will be scary opening her up...

If you have a MicroCenter nearby, they may be willing to repair the set for you. They are offering a one year MicroCenter warranty on all Olevia sets they are selling. I bought my 747i from them in July (refurb for $600 + tax). I talked to one of their TV Technicians, and he indicated that MicroCenter had purchased a "Good stock of repair parts for all of the models of Olevia sets they provide the in house warranty for. " This includes the 747i.

I figure MicroCenter has got to beat shipping the set to California to obtain a repair estimate.

Thanks for the tip. I live in CA, but still shipping this beast is not a good option.

I think I'll check with a local repair guy today - If he wants more than $100 I'll try myself. Pretty sure it's the capacitors on the power supply board.

I purchased my set in May 2008 from Tiger Direct. I don't remember sending any kind of warranty card in. Probabl expired after a year anyway, right?

You may have warranty coverage from your credit card company if you paid for the original purchase with a credit card. The quickest way to find out is to call the toll free number on the back of the credit card, and ask them.

D'oh! Pretty sure my ex (very, extremely ex) girlfriend and I split the set... on her card. Will call TD to try and find out.

Does anyone know where I can find the 7.5 firmware file for the update? All of the Olevia sites are down and Emerson has not picked up support for the product. Or if someone still has a copy available maybe they can make it available on this thread.

You know thats really bull****, million dollar companies shout about how much they love their customers in their ads, but they can't go to the trouble to make a place we can get a little 500k file after they go under. It would cost them $100 bucks. Our company's closed, we're out. And Emerson hasn't made any money on us yet so it's not their problem.

Just wanna say, 16 months and my 747i is just as beautiful as she was new.

Yeah, I went to Fry's the other day there's alot of off color pixelated sets down there. Just makes me appreciate this set more every time.

Yeah I must say, I not too long ago went full 7.1 sound and with this set putting out (near) reference quality video, I now have the privilege of providing an almost better than movie theater experience in my living room.
I'm seeing a lot of sets go on sale and wondering to myself, if I had the unfortunate event of my set doing something that it shouldn't do, what would I get to replace it with? Is there really anything better out there?
(best-bang-for-the-buck wise)

Easy. Go down to MicroCenter and buy Stock #093245. It's just as good as a 747i, but it only costs $700 (or $600 if it is on sale). I can't imagine anything better on the "best-bang-for-the-buck wise" scale.

Well, can you just provide a link to the item in question? There is no MicroCenter near me and when I put that # into the website, nothing comes back.

No, not kidding. I bought one from Mirocenter, Houston in July. The 747i was not then, and has not been added to the www website. If you want to know price and availability, you have to call the B&M store and ask about price and availability. It is listed on their internal computer system, and they will print out the listing for you in the store.

Houston, had 3, I bought one, and they had 2 for more than a month after I bought mine. The price was increased from $599.99 to $699.99 when the ad that I bought mine under expired. I haven't checked availability for perhaps a month. I will do so tomorrow!

OBTW, these sets are "refurbs". Mine was packed in a generic box, but it looked like new, and the set had less than 80 hours of use per the service menu. Microcenter is providing one year of parts and labor warranty on all Olevia sets they are currently selling.

Good for you, 7.1 sound. One channel for every screen you're watching simultaneously with the 747i's PIP.
