The Toshiba is an 120 Hz like the Vizio, the other 2 are 60 Hz. Would you still go with the Vizio?
Now we're talking! I just bought my sister a Toshiba ZV650U, which is the 'glossy' model from the 'matte' version offered to you. I like Toshiba (I'm biased though) and it's a better-built set than most. It's 120Hz refresh rate isn't 'soap opera effect' heavy and it comes with the most accurate colors out of the box (the other five sets will require you to do some work tweaking before getting a good picture). It also comes with Resolution+, which is as close to an SD-improving technology as you'll get on CCFL LCD's that don't have a Realta HQV onboard. It's a little heavy and bulky (no style points) but you're used to that with the 747i, right? You lose one inch in size though (46 versus 47) and, for better or worse, the Sony and Samsung have slightly better blacks and contrast ratios than the Toshiba's. They're 60Hz refresh though, so you'll have to hope that their budget de-interlacers do a good-enough job with the sports and 1080p/24 movies to not miss the 120Hz rate you're sacrificing from not going with Tosh and Vizio.
Also, there are constant reports that the Tosh HDTV's develop over time a 'robotic echo' when using HDMI cables for audio with the TV's speakers (no audio problem on component, S-Video or composite). Hasn't happened to my sister but it's a real issue, so much that Toshiba has a warning on its website about this and asks for people to download an update to try and fix the problem IF
it happens. Most people just shut the TV off, turn it on again and the sound-through-HDMI works like a charm. Since I'm wholeheartedly endorsing the Toshiba 46XV645U as the set you should go for I don't want you to walk into it thinking it's flawless. It's not, but of the six offered it's the best of the bunch in overall bang-for-buck replacement.
My suggestions (in descending order):1.-
Toshiba 46XV645U - most accurate colors out of the box, Resolution+ makes SD passable, good HD when fed a good source, 120Hz refresh rate that doesn't have 'soap opera' effect, matte screen minimizes reflections / No PIP, bulky (remote particularly), blacks a little on the 'lite' side but better than the 747i's, gimped VGA input not 1920x1080, reputation for developing 'robotic echo' sound when using HDMI to the TV (may require download or tech visit)
Now if you value at all
PIP, 120Hz and an extra inch of screen size...2.-
... but if you value slightly-better blacks than the two sets above and don't mind not having PIP or 120Hz refresh rate...3.-
Last and certainly least (but hey, if you're desperate):5.-
Here's the Owner's Thread for the 46XV645U (for what it's worth): http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...shiba+46xv645u
. Good luck with whatever TV set you get and make sure to get a warranty/return period outlined for the new set to make sure it's covered by at least the minimum one-year warranty. Also make sure your set is new and not a refurbished/used set (or that if it is you're made aware of it).
And remember, this is TV viewing and not sex: losing an inch is not the end of the world, although it'll definitely affect your sense of pleasure... visual pleasure!
