My 747i is still kicking.
There are a few 'banding' lines now visible though, two of them very large and looking like a big cat scratched the left side of the screen; easy to ignore on regular moving pictures, mostly an issue on non-single color images like underwater or 'foggy' scenes in which the camera pans from side-to-side. The main problem though is that the 747i now burn-ins easy if you leave an image on-screen for too long (the ESPN score box, the lines of the on-screen guide, etc.) and lasts for a good while before it disappears, which it does after an hour or so (and is definitely gone the next morning). The outlines of the PIP boxes are the main offenders about this; again though, tolerable.
I think my 747i still has a few months to a year left in it, and I'm frankly getting itchy to bite on the slimmer, lighter, 3D-ready and bigger HDTV's I can get now for a fraction of the $3K I paid in '07. But the 747i is like a wife: I still love her, can't kill her, can't dump it (it still works!) but a small part of me kind-of wishes she'd have an "accident" so I can upgrade to a 65' (LG) or 70' (Sharp) 3D HDTV for around $2.5K. This baby is also tempting me mighty to get the 747i a PIP-capable playmate that will eventually be its replacement: http://store.vizio.com/xvt3d580cm.html?SID=tquo4520ia7j40em07d5mv85a2
. Problem is, between both sets plus the old 27' Sony CRT set there wouldn't be enough room in my studio apartment for me to move around. Edited by dad1153 - 6/27/12 at 8:25pm
