I don't know about Z-wave, but I'll second IVB's recommendation of automatedoutlet.com... good service, flat rate shipping charge, and for some reason, they have the insteon relay switches $10 cheaper then smart home... by the way, I would also recommend smart home, free shipping on orders over x-amount, good service, just like automated outlet...

I like intermatic. ChrisWalker is a regular on the CT forums, and they seem to have a more recent offering.

So far, I just recently purchased Vizia RF dimmers from www.asihome.com. Good prices and fast shipping. I going to use them again for future purchases.

What are you controlling the Vizia Z-wave switches with?

I'm using the Harmony 890... and it's NOT as bad as everyone says it is. Actually, I think it's a kick ass remote for the price I picked it up for.

Full Z-WAVE RF control is not fully implemented with the 890 yet since Logitech still has not put the finishing touches on that part of their programming... at least that is what I have gotten so far by reading different forums. You still can add RF devices to the remote and control them but it's not very user friendly yet.

I'd like them to add the RF dimmers as a device to control the lights via RF (you can do this with IR only at the moment) so that I can setup different scenes.

Example: When I pause a movie (HD DVD, Blu-Ray, Laserdisc, etc., I'd like for the lights above the seats (Zone 2 controlled by a Vizia RF dimmer), the light in the equipment room (Zone 5 controlled by a Vizia RF dimmer), and the rope lighting around the riser (Zone 4 controlled by a plug-in adapter) to turn on. Then, when I press play, all the lights would turn off.

Logitech has not yet implemented a way to add the RF devices as a "device" so that you you could add them to an activity like the one example above. Hopefully soon though.

chucky,
You might be aware or not that PC based automation can do what you are looking to do now. Basically, the PC software listens for a command from your remote, and then the programming of what sequence of events to execute is managed by the software. The software then "talks" to the various hardware devices like IR, Serial, power line controllers to execute the specifics. Much more flexible / expandable than what is (or will be) possible in just the simple remote control macros.

Hey, that sounds really interesting!!! What software does this cause I have a PC going into the theater that will be on 24/7 that I can use to automate everything.

Tons of options here. here's my latest screenshots. But you've got boatloads of choices based on what you value.

Whatever it is that you use for that, I love it. I must know what all that stuff is. What program and platform are you using? I must have it.

Warning!!! This may become an addiction......

1. Your garage will become an electronics grave yard with lots R&D equipment.

2. You will find yourself consuming large amounts of time having fun with Fonts and graphics to find out that those great looking fonts still dont turn on your TV

3. Your wife will give you that "look" once a day for the next year!!

hehe, have fun!
