Will SMX work for me?

Need some suggestions/comments on this....I'm wanting to know if you can "paint" this material with one of the many methods from this forum to achieve better gain. (if it is even has to be done, 1.2 gain already)

Will this ruin the AT, and or the material itself. The reason I ask is I want about a 9-10'(W) 2.35 screen. I'm using a IN76 and it can be mounted anywhere up to the back of the rm (25') only thing is my ceilings are vaulted (8'-12') so i dunno if ceiling mount will work, if not a "pole" will be used. (light controlled dedicated theater)

My guess is the paint would ruin the AT screen

asked in the SMX forum..still waiting...anyone else..i thought i saw a post asking about if this would fill up the holes that make the screen AT...

You would ruin the screen. I know because I have sprayed this fabric to see. The paint fills the holes. If you take you time with light coats you can reduce it bue not eliminate it from my experience.

So, from my specs in my first post, does it look like the SMX will have enough gain for my situation?

I use an Optoma H-79 with a 12' wide 2.35:1 curved SmX screen. The brightness is plenty for me in brite mode with a light bulb with under 500 hours. The projector outputs around 600 lumens once calibrated.

Do you know what the actual calibrated lumens are with your projector?

I just got myy smx about a month ago. I first used it with my 4805 and now with my Mits HD100u. The SMX is plenty bright. It is at least as bright as my Parkland Plastics screen was.

No doubt about that, but please keep on track....the Op wants to ramp up the gain from the level the SMX already provides, without affecting the AT performance.

Can it be done? Don't bet against it. But be assured that anything considered must compliment the equation, not distract from already appreciated aspects of performance. Such a solution might have limited appeal at first, but as in all such things, knowledge empowers people to consider alternatives.

Stay tuned.........................
