Hello Everyone at AVS, thank you for taking the time to read this thread. I appreciate the great advice everyone gives here. I am a total newbie to choosing home theater equipment, but I love a good enveloping experience. I have just bought my first house and through chance I just also picked up a load of speakers really cheap that I want to set up. They are pretty old, but I am hoping they still put out. This will be the first time I've gotten to enjoy a real surround sound experience. I have attached a quick sketch of what my room and furniture arrangement looks like. There is a loveseat, chair, two bookcases, and side table, but the sweet spot will be on the couch which is a four seat modular. The speakers that I have are:
4 Infinity IL-40 Towers (Shown as fronts and sides)
2 Infinity IL-10 Book Shelves (Shown as backs)
1 Infinity IL-36C Center
1 Velodyne CT-80 Sub
I need the following equipment:
7.1 Receiver
DVD/CD Player
DLP TV
I would like a receiver that is 7.1 and has HDMI forwarding. I really don't know what else is very important. I would like a receiver that will drive these Infinity speakers well. I don't want it to become outdated quickly, or disappoint. If a feature is really worth having, I would rather save and be happy about the purchase, than buy now and be disappointed. My price range for the receiver is about $700 - $1000, I don't want to buy too much receiver for the speakers, or vise versa. I am open to any brand that will deliver the performance that I can expect from this amount of money. I don't care if it's pretty, trendy, etc. I just want a decent receiver.
I think that I would like a DVD/CD player combo. I have an old Onkyo CD changer, which is good but dated. I think it might be better just to get a DVD/CD combo to conserve space in my component cabinet. What do you guys think? Basically the same criteria apply; I just want a good DVD and CD player. My price range for this is about $300-$500.
As far as TV's go I am probably going to get the Samsung 67" S6767W, or a 65" Mitsubishi Diamond series. My price range is about $3000. Any input here is also greatly appreciated.
So, essentially all I have is the speakers
What should I get that is both quality and value. I am all about the happy median between the latest and greatest, and best bang for the buck. Once again, I appreciate your time and consideration with my project.
Peter
