No-Man (Tim Bowness/Steven Wilson) on DVDA

From Burning Shed:

"No-Man's fifth album 'Together We're Stranger' undoubtedly comprises the band's most ambitious and personal project in its history.

Originally released in 2003, 'Together We're Stranger' saw No-Man (the duo of Tim Bowness and Porcupine Tree's Steven Wilson) further extending the reach of its panoramic soundscapes and cracked, mournful, ballads.

Boasting impressive performances from Ben Castle (clarinets), Roger Eno (harmonium) and Gramophone's David Picking (percussion, trumpet), amongst others, the album is a powerful and emotionally direct statement that has deservedly garnered cult acclaim and led to a growing fanbase and internet presence for the band.

This new 2 disc Snapper edition of the album comes with the original stereo mix on CD, a new booklet featuring sleeve notes from Mojo's Johnny Black, improved packaging and an audiophile 5.1 DVD-A surround sound disc, also including high resolution 24 bit stereo.

Additionally, the DVD-A disc includes the Break Up For Real (drum mix), (bluecoda), the video for Things I Want To Tell You and a photo gallery.

Officially released on 20/4/2007 in Europe and 5/17/07 in the US, the album is available to pre-order now for £10.00 GBP and will be dispatched as soon as copies become available."

Scooterdog,

I'll be there too, with a friend and maybe my sons. The Warfield should be a better venue. The Fillmore sucked.

Anyone familiar with No Man? How does it compare with PT?

No-Man is more "atmospheric" and not nearly as heavy as PT. You can sample them here. Click Here For No-Man's MySpace Page

Isn't it great when you bring along another generation. My son is 21 and I was the one that turned him on to PT about 8 years ago. His uncle called him last week to go see Bob Seager and he need to get a ride, but when he asked a couple of his buddies for a ride and he would give them a ticket they did not know who Bob Seager was...sad. so he didn't go

My kids both have HTs, but sadly aren't music lovers. I'll have to drag them . Once there I think they'll be hooked.

Saw their last show in London in late September last year where they played a lot of material form their forthcoming album, Fear of a Blank Planet. Terrific concert, one of the very best I've attended. Will try to catch them again as soon as possible.

Does anyone know if No-Man has done any touring?

I like anything with Steven Wilson in it. If you like No-Man, be sure to check out Blackfield too (www.blackfield.org) and of course Porcupine Tree (www.porcupinetree.com).

I love everything Steve Wilson has done, except the one disc I have of No Man (Flower mouth), it is completely un-listenable and a waste of money. I would be interested in this disc if I could find a place to listen to it first, but I wont do another blind buy on no-man.

The new Blackfield is awesome!

Ironically, I bought the regular version of Together We're Stranger one week before I saw the announcement of the 5.1 mix. >.<<br /> It's an excellent album, though. Very soft and dreamy, very beautiful and gripping. I especially like "Photographs in Black and White". Amazing song.

Does anyone know if this release will be DVDA only? Or will it contain DTS/DD tracks too? (yeah, I should probably invest in a DVDA player, but I'm a poor lil' student.)

And I didn't think Flowermouth was that bad. Sure, they've come a long way since, but for the bargain price they're selling it for, it's still worth it. Though if you don't have the Porcupine Tree DVDAs, I'd save my money for those :P

Got Together We're Stranger yesterday.

Beautiful fold-out digipak containing the CD and DVDA. There is high rez stereo and surround (48kHz/24-bit) and DTS surround. The DVDA also features two bonus tracks and a video.

Wow, this is one fantastic album and an excellent surround mix! Listened to the entire thing twice consecutively last night with the volume raised and one candle lit. Oh, the pain!

Highly recommended!

Wow. Flowermouth is my favorite No-Man, although without the last track (Things Change) it might only be second-favorite behind Together We're Stranger.

The 5.1 mix of TWS is really nice. Chill out music for sure. I've played it three times so far, and the mix just, well, "surrounds" you and wraps you up in melancholy and regret.

Its the vocals I cant stand in Flower Mouth or any No man samples I've heard, whoever that is that's singing should never sing again, he is terrible.

This is quite a nice surround mix. The music is atmospheric and moody; excellent to nurse fine scotch at the end of the day with the lights dimmed down. However, I concur that Tim Bowness's voice detracts from the superb quality of the music. The few occasions that Steve Wilson sang in the background underscored how much superior his voice was. Photographs in Black and White and The Break-Up For Real (drum mix) were out-of-this-world beautiful.
