STF-1 vs. STF-2....Big Difference??

I was given a Sony HTiB for Xmas. During the last couple of months, I replaced all of the components and returned the HTiB to Walmart. I now have Polk speakers and a Yamaha 5960 AVR. I purchased a Hsu STF-1 as my sub, but I think it might be a little overwhelmed by the layout of my room. I'm considering replacing the STF-1 with an STF-2 (which would be about the limits of my budget). Will I see much of a difference between these two subs??

Thanks!!

Not quite sure what you mean by "might be a little overwhelmed by the layout of my room". Are you not happy with its performance? What is it lacking? Output?

It is also hard to define "big difference". The ST-1 is rated to 32Hz the ST-2 is rated to 25hz. There's only $100 difference between the two so if you were starting from scratch I would say go with the 2. However if you have to sell the 1 and then buy the 2 it's going to be more than $100.

So it depends.

My room layout is tricky. It's a 15' x 16' room that opens into a small kitchen. It also has a halfwall along one side and has a ceiling that extends up to a second floor loft. I listen to 90% HT with this setup and would prefer a little more bass that you can feel. I'm still within the 30 day trial period for my STF-1, so I could return it and then get the SFT-2.

That's a lot of space to subwoof! The STF-2 would fare better, no doubt. My only reservation would be whether the STF-2 will satisfy you. Contact HSU and get their opinion.

X2 - call and ask for Dr Hsu. He knows his products best.

Have you played around with sub placement? Dr. Hsu has recommended alternative sub placement for me, and it helped out greatly in bass response.

FYI, I have the STF-1 (on a subdude) in a 12x15x8 room which opens up to a small kitchen and dining area, and I don't complain about the lack of bass. If I had any more, my neighbors would summon to evict me probably...

That said, considering your tall ceilings, you should probably get something bigger than an STF-1.
