OMG... Sacred 2, I must have this. - Page 2

I have been playing this for a few hours now. My verdict is that it is a solid game, once you get the hang of it.

My biggest negative is the respawning creatures. You can walk up a hill, see it is a dead end, turn around and come back down and have the entire forest of creatures respawned, literally that fast. Kind of drains the fun a little bit.

Good graphics, nothing amazing. Spell effects can look amazing to weak. Being able to cast multiple spells in a row is pretty awesome and you can wipe out entire enemy armies with a couple spells.

Leveling up can get confusing and it doesn't guide you through anything. I didn't realize I could now click on my combat art school and enhance the entire combat art (you get to do this at level 5, 9, etc.) You have to really, really play around and explore your character screen to understand everything.

The only other gripe is the running around between quests, I wish you could teleport without finding a shrine or teleporter, however there are a LOT of them throughout the world, letting you jump around once you explored the map.

All in all, a solid 7, and worthy of anyone who loves RPG and item grinding.

Played for about 3 hours last night and I am loving it. There are some bugs and some annoyances, but if you like hack and slash games, this is your game for a console. Decent graphics, but compared to the PC version, it's fairly low res. So much to do in this game and I heard it could take well over 30 hours to finish the light or dark side and a total of 100+ hours is possible. Camera takes getting used to, but something that can be dealt with. Combat is done by just pressing a button, so it is not a button masher. Leveling up options can be confusing like WilliamR said, but there are WIKI on it showing the options you have. I'd give it a solid 8 just for the fun factor and amount of time that can be spent on it. Big plus is that it is 2 player co-op offline and 4 player co-op online.

No split screen, so couch-coop players need to stay within camera range of each other. The missus and I tried it last night, and it wasn't bad at all. *Much* better than the Fable 2 couch-coop.

Camera issues? Set it to static and it stays exactly where you put it and you have full control over it.

Any idea of the length of this game?

Absolutely massive if it is anything like the PC. I can't remember the quoted hours, but you could very easily, without much effort, sink 60+.

Anyone else habe impressions on the co-op, I'm thinking of getting this to couch co-op with a friend.
Bought this yesterday and played for a bit. I am shocked at just how much the screen tears. When you have the camera zoome dout at all it just tears every step you take.

Everything else about the game seems just fine but I had a headache after playing.

Sacred 2 has this way of luring you back for more--even with its faults!

It pleases me to say that after becoming a little bored with the Shadow Warrior--with it's monotonous melee--I decided to create a different character, a Dryad, and give Sacred 2 another shot. It's not that I dislike Sacred 2, it's that it's got so much potentoil and it's first impression was spoiled! Hey, I love these dungeon crawlers ok?

So I headed in another direction and went with a ranged class to see how differently it would play. The Dryad class can use melee weapons like the Shadow Warrior, but really, it's built for ranged attacks. I have to say, after playing for several hours, I really enjoyed my time playing the Dryad. Sure, chalk it up to personal preference perhaps but it really feels like this game was built for bows-and-magic on the consoles (not the PC.) Come’on, this is coming from a guy who hated the “push-the-stick” melee in Too Human but loved the Marksmen class.

With the class change I dutifully played a few more hours of the game (roughly 4). Unfortunately with in that time I noticed a few more obtrusive issues with the game. Thankfully none of these are deal breakers, atleast not for me. But before I get to those I want to reiterate—I am now enjoying this game, it’s just that it’s not as refined as I would like it to be.

With that being said....

I cannot find a way to blacksmith in the field despite obtaining the skill to do so. I've checked around on several forums, asked a few people and it appears that this is a common issue amongst players. It’s a nice skill to have as Blacksmiths just aren’t prevalent in the game.

When browsing the inventory there are two options available to you—“Details” and “Compare”. "Details" allows you to—are you ready for this—see more details about a particular item! "Compare" allows you to....see more details about an item! Yes the problem is--both buttons do the exact same thing. This is another very useful feature that would make life easier when upgrading and selling items. Anyone know what's going on with this?

In my previous post I complained about the act of Looting. I'm happy to report that the "catch all" collection system now feels really good and makes my little pavlovian brain salivate with it's "Cha-ching" sound effects.
Just to note--and not to complaint--gone is the color system the PC version of the game uses to identify power level and importance of items and weapons (a la Word of Warcraft) and replacing it is a star system. It works well and I see no real difference between using the two. I'm wondering if perhaps the change took place to better suite colorblind gamers?

Overall—this game is beginning to win me over and I'm excited about that.

Anyone up for some coop?

30 hours main quest. 100+ for all the side quest and main quest.
How exactly does co-op work when it comes to things like exploring the map and completing quests? If I join a friends game and complete a main quest with him, does that mean I completed it on my end (for the character I'm playing with)? If I explore an area with a friend and then play later by myself, will that area be unlocked (so I can teleport there)?

I hope that's how it works... otherwise joining other people's games will be strictly for leveling up a character. Meaning, I would need to play through by myself (or at least host a game for others to join), in order to complete the main and side quests in the game.

Looks like I'll have to get this after I finish Fable 2.

Whoever hosts the game (i.e. the second person has to JOIN your game) then everything that the host has done is the game world. The second one is along for the ride in your world. So you can start new or you can have someone come along to help out with your quests or whatever. From the momment they join your game that character they use will gain the benefits of whatever you guys do from that point on.

Thanks for the reply.

When you say "gain the benefits," does that mean only XP and items/loot? Or does that also include quests completed and map area explored?

Meaning... if I join someone's game and complete a quest and then I host my own game, will that quest be marked as completed on my game?

I believe so.

I picked this up yesterday for the wife and me to do some couch co-op a la Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance, D&D Heroes, etc. Overall I think it'll be fun, but we're going to shelve it until a few patches are released.

In particular there's no way to trade items (or drop them so the other player can pick them up) in offline co-op mode. The developers have announced plans to fix that in an upcoming patch. It sucks to pick up class-specific loot that the other player could use and you have zero way to give it to them without going online and using some intermediary!

I've read about other issues such as save file corruption that I'm hoping will be fixed in short cycle. We're still in the process of finishing up D&D Heroes anyway, so it's not like we're in a big hurry.

Overall it looks like it'll be a decent game, though, and as close to something like Diablo II/Dungeon Siege/Titan Quest that has been released on a console so far. BGA, D&DH, etc., are all quite linear, but this game definitely feels more open for exploration.

I also wish the camera weren't zoomed out so far in co-op, though! Seems like they could provide multiple levels of zoom, even with the restrictions that would impose on how far players could get from one another, and let the players decide what is the right compromise.

Until they release something that allows you to trade, out the item in your hero chest. The other hero then can take the item from your hero chest. In fact, any hero you create on your 360 can use the hero box so put unique items you find for other classes in there so you have them when you play as that character. That is the purpose of the hero chest.

.

I don't understand how its even possible for a game, or games, where saving is crucial part of the game and has the completely potential to ruin a game can save ship with a widespread bug like that. Castle crashers comes to mind... we and buddy were having a ton of fun until my level 80 character became a level 1.... haven't sat down and properly played since.

I also don't understand why in a game where you could literally play for hundreds of hours - they don't let you backup your save file. I tried copying it to a memory card and it's apparently locked. They could allow copying the save file without allowing other people to use it. Why not allow us to back it up?

I'm wondering if this is a limitation of the console rather than the game because, from what I understand, you can backup your save game files to an external resource (i.e. USB key) on the Playstation 3.
i believe its an effort to eliminate item duping and such. not a console limitation, you can copy or at least move a lot of gamesaves for most games.

I agree - the tearing is horrific!
Just about every criticism of this game I have seen is true. Horrible screen tearing. Repetitive combat. Lack of ability to share between characters. Very non-intuitive rpg system. The help and tutorial is lacking and many things about the game are undocumented. The possibility that save files can be corrupted. Clunky controls. Mediocre graphics...etc

With all that being said, the game still freaking rocks. Take Diablo 2 and add in the large open world of oblivion and 2 player couch co-op and suddenly you have a game I can't stop playing. And I am one of those people who have had a corrupted save already.

The rpg system behind building characters is fairly complicated and deep. It lends itself to lots of experimentation and exploring. Creating combos that seem to work effectively also is good. Weapon switching is easy. You basically have twelve slots to setup your abilities/combos and weapons in. The special mounts look really cool. Its just fun going out and exploring a large world especially in 2 player co-op mode.

The biggest disappoint for me is the combat system and controls. I was hoping for a more powerstone 2 kind of feel to combat. There is minimal use of distance and speed in combat. My Dryad for the most part runs near a group of monsters and then I hold down either the A or B button. All use of attacks lock you in place with possible slight exception of the Temple Guardian. Also many of the attacks after completing seem to keep your rooted to the spot for a little bit after you stop performing it. Once my dryad stops shooting it seems like forever before I can make her start moving again. It's still okay in the sense that you can get yourself into trouble and have to run for your life but I was really hoping for a lot more fluid control scheme.

Overall I recommend it. I can easily see myself putting in 150+ hours into this game.
Been playing this game quite a bit. I think I have about 10 hours into it already. Playing as a Seraphim. My main gripe is the camera aspect. I would prefer that when zoomed in tight on the character it showed more distance ahead of you. Oh well. Anyways, its fun mindless looting and pillaging. I really liked the first Sacred for PC and this game has all the same good qualities. For me the good far outweighs the bugs and the bad. However, if my save data gets corrupted I am going to throw my controller through a wall.

Agree with William 100% - great game once you get into it - there is a whole lot of replay in this game I'm expecting to spend several hundred hours playing this game well worth a purchase if your a Diablo fan.

The only negative on it so far for me is the inability to respec. My shadow warrior was my first guy, and I went down the lore and buff tree only to find out that I have to choose between my buff or my minions, I cannot have them both up at the same time. Therefore, it is wasted points, and I may need to start over . Other than that, and the screen tearing, it really is a fun game.
Up until recently my 360 hasn't been touched unless I was using it to stream.. This game changed totally changed that.. Def worth paying 50$ for it..

Been to good to finally read some peoples opinons on this game. Sacred 2 hasn't had much coverage here in the UK but I decided to take a chance on it anyway. Hopefully will get my copy in a couple of days.

How do the achievements work if you are Co op'ing in someone else's game ? Same as Fable 2 perhaps ??

If you get the concentration skill you can have 2 buffs running at a time. If you get the skill to 75 you can have 3 buffs running.
