Impromptu BAAS (BADAS?) meeting anyone?

UPDATE: It's looking like March 24th is the consensus...

So I'm at a car dealer working on a new purchase, and the sales guy says, "You know, by boss says you seem familiar to him. Would you know him?"

Well, whaddya know. Fellow AVSer Grellberg's his boss! He recognized my name and the fact I was from Menlo.

I hadn't yet met him in person, having missed the previous BAAS-relaed get-togethers where he's been in attendance. But now that I have, I fully expect him to give me a killer deal on my new Infiniti M35, or I'm gonna roast him on this forum Just kidding of course: you can't buy expensive gear selling everyone your stuff at cost. I'll settle for a very good deal.

He also suggested some sort of get-together before I move to Texas (which is April 2/3). Maybe we'd head over to his house, or OBs (if he's up for it), or just a nice dinner. I think that's a GREAT idea, as long as the scheduling works out. That's a medium-to-big if, but I'll check my calendar and throw out dates. Barring that, I'm back in town on April 30th for a meeting, so maybe the night before would work.

In any case I sure have enjoyed the opportunties to meet the BAAS folks in person, and how I've been welcomed despite my relatively low-budget gear

Mike,
A possibility is to come over to my place (Livermore) since I just got a new linestage which sounds terrific. I am still chasing minor issues (like the new power conditioning is missing still) but if everyone is not too critical I think it is ready for a first listen. I'd be happy if we got together before you leave town.

I have bought two cars from grellberg for my daughters and have gotten not only great deals but superb service. As you all know grellberg lives only a few miles from me and we have hosted some great BAAS meetings which have started at my house in the afternoon and then on to grellberg's favorite Chinese restaurant in San Ramon (Uncle Yu's) and then back to his house in the evening.

I am in for the event as well as many BAAS members such as Michael Grant and Tzucc have not heard the Lamm ML 2.1's with the X-2's. Smokester has a new preamp and grellberg has changed his amps from VTL 450's to the TOL CAT which are totally terrific. Since I am officially retired now and have only time on my hands most dates work for me.

As before, the wine's on me at Yu's and my house.

Pick a night other than March 17, 18, 19th and I'm in.

If anybody wants, can do ARC ref 3 vs Aesthetix (now have both).
Also, friend just bought some Audioquest Horizon, which might be cool to try
vs Transparent.
(yes, I realize how sad this all seems to non dweebs)

Want to throw the Wavestream Linestage into the mix?

Absolutely. Sounds like fun.

I'd love to meetup with fellow BAAS members as well. I've got some new gear too recently and would love to have everyone over sometime to my small albeit humble home. Unfort., I live in Berkeley which is far from OB and all. But I thought I'd throw that at there anyway.

Sounds (no pun intended) like we're having a party.

For those BAAS members who haven't heard grellberg's gear this is a great chance. Not only is it the best of the best but he is a gracious host with an amazing wine cellar. Plus--the waiters all know him at Uncle Yu's

Count me in. Although i am in the process of buying a house, so i have no idea if i can make it.

I would like to attend as well, and maybe Bruce from the Apogee group . For the vinyl guys, I got an SME 30 and Clearaudio Harmony cartridge since the last event. I could accommodate a small breakoff group who can go to Pleasanton for a while if they are interested to hear these with a Manley Steelhead, but my listening room fits about two listeners at a time with one real sweet spot so my listening digs are somewhat restricted for the main soiree.
Besides, I have a thousand or so records that I still need to hear on Grellberg's system.

Well, this is great. Looks like we have audio, wine, food, and good company lined up---we just have to pick a date. I'll throw out a bunch, excepting those grellberg eliminated above, and let others whittle them down: March 13, 16, 20, 23, 24, 26, 27, and *maybe* 30.
I'd love to attend and hear grellberg's gear and bid bon voyage to Michael, if the date works out for me. Also be happy to carpool from the peninsula.
I can smell grellberg's wine cellar from Oakland. Oh - I guess I'd come for the music and friends as well.
hi gang,

sorry to see michael leaving, but it would be great to bid him a great baas farewell.

any date past the 19th works for me. i would be glad to bring some goodies for the gang to munch on.

Since grellberg typically works until early evening my suggestion would be to start out in Livermore at smokester's (unless he is going to bring his new gear to grellberg's house) in the afternoon, then proceed on to my house and then to Uncle Yu where we can all meet for dinner and catch up with grellberg and then back to his house. As cjfrbw suggests perhaps some can go back to his place in Pleasanton in the early afternoon.
All dates work for me although Sunday's are best

OB,

Yes - where's Ron? (pun intended)

Oh there he is - I hadn't gotten to Post #13 yet.

Anyone heard from Jeffmac or Tzucc?

smokester,

I most certainly would enjoy a chance to hear the vaunted Wavestream Linestage.

If I'm not mistaken, the Wavestream Linestage in the picture is actually
smokester's unit. He had to wait until after CES because his unit was
being used at CES.

Gents, let's whittle those dates down a bit. Those of you who are posting without offering dates I will assume are flexible enough to attend them all. Els has a vote against the early dates, so that leaves March 20, 23, 24, 26, 27. That's a Tuesday, Friday, Saturday, Monday, and Tuesday, respectively. (I'm going to take March 30 off the table for now since it is so close to my move date.) Sorry OB, that doesn't leave any Sundays...

Cast your votes ASAP...

TerryM4, I'm happy to carpool. Of course, I won't be driving my shiny new Infiniti since it is going directly on a truck to Texas (so I don't have to pay California registration).

OB, I can't do a Sunday. I've already listed all the dates I can do---if I didn't list a day, it's because I (or grellberg) have a prior commitment. I mean, if you want to have a farewell dinner without me, that's OK I guess, but it would be a bit weird!
Why don't you guys use something like Google Calendar to work out your scheduling?

I'd really like the 24th, not only because it's the only date I can make but it's also a Saturday so most of us can party till dawn
post #24 of 68
For me, 23d to 24th would do well.

Google? Calendar? Is that some funky new technology that luddites like us would find scary and mysterious?
Saturday the 24th works for me. Weekdays are not possible- some of us are still working to pay off our equipment- although Friday the 23rd is possible later in the day (after 3 or so).
