Toshiba 42HP66 - Re-calibration??

Thread Starter
I've owned my Toshiba 42 HP66 for about 9 months and recently have noticed problems with the picture. This is my first plasma and I'm completely ignorant regarding how to handle this problem.

The picture has an increase in visible artifacts and these strange halo-like effects around everything creating noticeable zones of color through everything. I've tried different color settings but nothing makes it go away and it seems to be getting worse.

Could I possibly need it to be re-calibrated? Is this normal with plasmas? If I do need to have someone check it out does anyone know how much that may cost?

Any help would be greatly appreciated since I lost the receipt and seriously can't afford to replace it.

post this on the calibration forum - it's a little farther down on the list of forums, here. They can help you alot better with this type of query.

A pro-cal runs around 300 bucks - and well worth it, imho!

If you paid a pro to calibrate and if nobody moved the settings you should not be getting artifacts. I would imagine they provide you with a sheet for the calibrated settings. If you have had for nine months it is still under warranty so call a decent repair shop and at the very least they will come to your house and look it over. Check the build date on the back if it is still inside a year you might be able to convince a repair shop to negotiate with a toshiba rep. to have your set repaired.

doubtful he actually had a pro calibration.......
see if your manual has a reset feature for the set.
check your sources/connections/cabling. how or on what nput is this happening? through a cable or sat receiver, the tv tuner/antenna input, on digital and analog stations, from a dvd player or what?
most plasma have a one year manufacturer warranty. call toshiba service and see what they say and go through the phone questions and if needed will they send a tech out to check it.
if it was that expensive you should have kept your sales receipt, have you checked to see if it is with your tv's manual/papers. go back or ask the store you bought it from for a copy of the sales receipt if it is needed.

Phosphors wear/dim over time which requires one to make picture adjustments to achieve the same level of brightness/intensity as when their PDP was newer. Phosphors wear the quickest when brand new and dim more slowly as time progresses. This is the main reason that many "videophiles" wait until after the initial break-in period to have their panels professionally calibrated. It sounds like your panel will require another calibration in order to approximate the picture you have experienced before.
