I dont have a massive budget for my system this is more going to be a evolitionary process. Slow and steady. i would the go without and save for something better rather than get something crappy right away

i was mainly looking at this one as i want it for the audio as i wont be getting a hdtv anytime before christmass when the prices come a bit more down and i have a little extra money

Oppo DV-970HD

Oppo DV-970HD. Bought this as my primary audio player. HDCD, SACD, DVD-Audio. Well worth the $150. It has now become my primary dvd player as well. I've probably read all 4,500 posts about it. I have yet to have a single problem with mine.

and Oppo's customer service is amazing. you get a quick response, most larger companies don't even respond.

Agreed. You could spend thousands more, but that'd be better spent on room treatments.

How's the sacd/dvd-audio bass management on the Oppo 970?
I let my Onkyo do the bass management.

Some (actually most) receivers can't do bass management for the 5.1 analog inputs, so the bass management on a DVD-A/SACD player is important to many. Unfortunately, it is common for the players to insist on a fixed 120Hz crossover.

As far as I know, it is the equal of or better than any other similarly priced player and it has a better chance of being updated since Oppo actually continually refines their budget players, while as far as I know, all other manufacturers forget about them really quickly.

The Onkyo TX-SR674E have no bass/time delay management on the 5.1 analog inputs, but it does have level adjustment. Good thing since my DVD player lacks that. Luck has it that my DVD player (Onkyo) has a fixed crossover at 80Hz for SACD that works well for me.
