Found the location of the firmware version in the old thread, thanks. In my case it v1.25. Is that the latest version I wonder.

And for those interested....

The firmware version is listed on the bottom right of the "Special Features" menu (the middle menu with the gear icon).

I really can't see any differences in 1.2 => 1.25. See no problems with the new set though, knock on wood.

I have a HDMI cable going from the DVR to the Vizio... on the HD channels, best picture I have ever had in my room. PS3 is INCREDIBLE w/ Blu Ray.

However, when I go through some of the non-digital channels or some of the non-HD digital channels that are broadcast in 4:3, SOME TIMES the picture is to the very far left, not centered.

When I stretch it does not reach the very right side of the picture, there is about 1'' of black strip w/ no picture (even stretched).

I can cut the TV off and back on and it will be back in the center, some times. If I flip to an HD station everything goes back to a perfect picture again.

I have the DVR set to 16:9 TV and to stretch 4:3 broadcasts. I changed it to broadcast 4:3 normally but it still will shift the picture all the way to the left for some reason.

ANY clue??

Other than this.. best TV I have ever owned. Thanks everyone for the help!

I have this same problem. When connected from 8300 to gv47l by HDMI, the 8300 will not allow output settings to be adjusted. Has anyone found a solution or good workaround? Thanks.
This situation isn't really a TV problem as it is a cable company problem... my understanding of this is that companies like Time Warner updated their cable box software and it's this update that doesn't allow the changing of the settings with HDMI output.

Noticed a slight audio delay (occasionaly) on new GV47L. Also noticed this quite heavily discussed here. What is/was the response from Vizio on this?

Firmware v1.25 and have a A10 model manufactured in October 2007.

If firmware fixable, wouldn't it be nice to have it be customer installable, but I understand that it isn't.

Anyone here know if other brands allow for firmware upgrades "in the field". TIA.

Vizio hasn't said anything official. Posters in this forum are evenly split on whether it is the source material or the television. In my situation, I only see the see the problem on two HD channels; never anywhere else.

Bought this tv (10A) on 12/27 from Costco. Firmware is 1.20.

Question on contrast ratio: What is the contrast ratio for this tv (10A)? The box says 1600:1. Does that mean 800:1 static and 1600:1 dynamic? I checked the Vizio website and it says 1500:1 (not sure if this is for 10A or 20A). I checked the Vizio online manual (which is 20A) and says 1000:1 static and 2000:1 dynamic. So I'm a bit confused on these numbers.

Question on SD cable picture quality: I've had the VX32L for over 9 months and SD Comacast digital cable looks decent. Putting SD cable on this tv looks horrible. Is that just because of the increase in size in comparision to my 32"?

Question on sound through tv speakers: Compared to the VX32L, the sound of SD cable tv sounds crappy. Like there is something blocking the speaker sound. Has anyone had any negative thoughts of the speakers too?

PQ is pretty good on blu-ray via PS3. Not happy with the black levels in dark scenes. Have not tried sound through speakers as I use a home theater speaker system.

Are there any previous owners of this tv (10A) that have returned. If so, was the tv you replaced with a better experience? If yes, what tv.

Thanks a lot...Happy New Year's everyone.

The built-in speakers are crappy and the volume cannot be turned up enough. The best option is to go into the menu, turn the internal speakers off and run the sound through your external home theater speakers.

As to the black levels, that is the knock with this set. Its black levels leave a bit to be desired. For those of us who are happy with this TV, it provides a pretty good picture for a terrific price. For those who are perfectionists, they will want to spend two to three times the price for 10 - 15% better PQ.

I bought the 47" (10A) from Costco in the beginning of December (manufacture date Oct 2007). I had assumed that after all this time Vizio would have fixed the issues with this set, but I had issues with (occasional) buzzing when the backlight was less than around 90, and audio sync problems.

I ended ordering the new 46" Vizio from costco.com at the end of Dec. Side-by-side, the 46" has much better blacks (and no audio delay or buzzing) compared to the 47". I returned the 47".

Including the cost of shipping , I ended up paying ~$55 more for 1 inch less viewable screen (physically the TVs are the same size, the bezel is thicker in the 46"). The better PQ makes up for size and cost differences.

The Official Vizio GV46LF Owners thread (sorry can't post clickable URLs yet) has a some more info on this set.

Ok so i have had my tv since march and like it. but there has been a small grey patch in the bottom left hand corner. it takes a while to show up after the tv warms up. I called about it and they sent out a new mainboard ..I knew it was not going to fix the problem as it seemed to be a problem with the actual LCD screen. it didnt fix it and they are seding me a replacement tv. Do you know if its going to be a refurb tv?? or a new one.
they said the warehouse will call me and set up a time to swap it. should i cancel this and take it back to Costco or should I wait to see the new tv and then decide..
I dont think Costco carries this TV anymore but i guess i could ask for my money back

Return and collect your $$$. I went thru 3 sets before I gave up. All had some or other annoying issues. Vizio has lot of QC issues - big time, IMO.

I just received my replacement last week and it is a new set. I did ask them when they were setting up the shipment for a new set though. And I confirmed it twice. You may want to do that. I'm happy with the new one I got and I jumped up in build months by 5 months.
so i called vizio and they told me that the shipping people would call me to set up times.

when i asked vizio about the new set/refurb. they said that they dont know and it was upto the warehouse to make that decision.

The laptop is currently hooked up to the TV and sending a signal but the TV doesn't seem to be recognizing it.

How do I fix this?! Grrrrr!

Still having problems. Called Vizio and they're sending someone out to take a look. Great

Keep pressing the Input (or TV/AV/Comp/HDMI, any one of them) on the remote like there's no tomorrow when you turn the TV on.

They swapped out my first set and the replacement has been terrific. I don't know if it was new or a refurb and I don't care. It looked great out of the box and has performed great ever since. Since you can't control what the warehouse does, just relax and see what they send you.

Oh, I tried. I tried everything. Then I spent 1/2 hour on the phone with Vizio trying all their suggestions multiple times. It's just not gonna work.

They were supposed to call me within 48 hours to schedule an appointment. Well guess what? I never heard from them. This isn't starting out well

could you see any issues in getting a refurb set if its in great shape. like am i loosing out on bulb life or anything?

The few people who have posted about refurbs in this forum appear to be split. Those who got theirs through a third party didn't always like the set. These were people who knew they were buying a refurbed set in order to save money on the initial purchase. Those that got one through Vizio seemed to be happy. As I recall, you are working with Vizio, and you don't even know for sure you will get a refurb. I think you should be fine.

I would certainly not worry about bulb life. You will own a different TV by the time the LCD decides to burn out.

How long is this supposed to take to get swapped out? For me, it took about a month from the time they told me they would replace it.

i called them and they said the tv was already shipped out to the delivvery company. i am hoping in a week or 2. i checked with cost...and they said that I can bring the replacement back to them if it had problems. so I am going to keep my fingers crossed abotu it

Tried to get audio out from the optical out port on my GV47L to Pioneer amp. No luck. Analog works fine.

Firmware v1.25 Oct. 2007 build.

Tested my son's PS3 optical out to the same port with same optical cable on the Pioneer amp and that works.

Am I missing something on the GV47 setup to get the optical audio out working?

I finally lost my mind with the hum of the set (had board replaced which fixed speaker hum but not set hum). Unless the volume was over 13 the hum was loader than the set at 10' away. Tech support agreed to replace the set and I was happy. Too bad a refurb showed up with a bad component 1 input. The original serial has been covered by a new one (you can read the old one through the sticker). I contacted tech support tonight to let them know they sent my a faulty set for a faulty set. Not sure what they will say but my next call will be to Costco. They can get a "new" set for me from vizio or I'm taking mine back for a refund.

I should add I was happy with the PQ of my original set.
The repair tech showed up today (on time...on a Sunday!) and replaced the main board and the power supply. The TV still doesn't work. Watching the Chargers and Colts on a 13" TV today

He said Vizio will likely just replace the TV now. What are the chances of them trying to give me a refurbished unit? This unit was perfect (no hum, perfect picture, etc.) I'd hate to receive a replacement with humming, etc.

Either way, it looks like I won't be watching the Superbowl on my big TV

Sorry about the big game on the little TV. When Vizio replaced mine last summer, the replacement set came out of the box in perfect condition and I've been happy ever since. Hope the same for you.
