Vizio GV47L 47" 1080P LCD Official Thread II - Page 66

Thanks for the links, its a tremendous help.

I went to radio shack to got an inline fuse holder and soldered it onto the bad fuse. I used a 1.5 amp 250V fuse. I tested with a multimeter and got beep and reading, so I assume that fuse it working.

Went to plug it in, but still no picture and no control through the front panel controls. Should I assume the power supply went bad too. Is it unusual for both the main and power board to go?

I would give it a shot, Costco is pretty lenient about things like that, particularly if you are sure it's before their new warranty policy. At the return desk they can look up your receipt for you, but since it's a few years it might not be in your system. You should try to find your receipt first, it's a couple grand; it should be worth your time. You could also call up their 800 Customer Service #, and see if they can find your purchase in the system, they can email you the receipt to save you the hassle.

Without the original box, can I return the TV?

Mine died recently and I don't want to go through the hassle of trying to replace boards.

Are there any companies that buys old lcds to refurb?

I would take it off your hands if you were close. What state do you live in?

I've had the same problem a few others have had, the dead screen/no sound/control panel unresponsive have to unplug to turn off. This thing is out of warranty, and I didn't want to fork out hundreds for some tech to come out.

First I called vizio tech asking for advice and told them flat out it was out of warranty and was not interested in a tech coming out and they were cool enough to still help me pinpoint the issue. After going through a few drills with the tech, he mentioned that it 'sounds like the f3 fuse on the main board is bad.'

So I popped out the back panel, spent like 5 minutes hunting for the fuse and sure enough I found the little bugger. I don't have a voltage meter but I did notice brown discoloration in the F3 fuse that the other two do not have.

My question is this, I saw the link that Tom_w put out with the correct fuse but is it possible that I could drop by my local radio shack and pick up any old 1.5a fuse and solder it on top of the bad fuse? Or should I just be patient and order the correct one from partsworld or w/e?

Just an update for anyone who cares,

I went out to radioshack and got a 1 1/4 by 1/4 inch 1.5a 250v fuse and a gargantuan automotive fuse holder.

Went home, soldered on the ends of the wire to bad F3 fuse on the main board, tucked the fuse holder away plugged it in...and BAM it worked again.

So amazing, considering I found this TV lying against the dumpsters of my apartment.

6$ TV? Okay

As far as I am aware DirecTV is 1080i. The only 1080p on DirecTV is in the on demand pay per view stuff and you need a TV that supports 1080p 24 frames for that to work. The GV47L is 1080p 60 frames. That is my understanding.

so the GV47L doesn't do 1080p/24 what a bummer

GV47L cannot get COX Phoenix openQAM. It scans and recognizes the digital ch. names - but it does not decode them.
Of course Vizio points the finger at Cox and guess where Cox's finger points at?
Sure enough - on the very same signal my Sony has no problems showing digital channels.
VIZIO does not stand by their product and does not even attempt to repair it - there is no boards in the pipeline for the repairs.

Costco tightens its return policy
'A few jerks' prompt retailer to alter rules on electronics

By CRAIG HARRIS
P-I REPORTER

Costco Wholesale Corp.'s liberal return policy on most consumer electronic products is being reined in.

The Issaquah-based retailer has begun limiting money-back returns on TVs, computers, cameras, camcorders, iPods, MP3 players and cell phones to 90 days. Previously, there was no time limit except for personal computers, which was six months.

The change went into effect Monday in Costco's 109 California stores and begins March 12 in all 27 Washington stores. The company has more than 500 U.S. stores.

Another GV47L20A bites the dust! Black Screen.

I've read most of the posts regarding this issue. All were helpful for me troubleshooting the black screen. My mainboard has 2 fuses and not 3. They are both good. F1 on the power supply is also good. My screen is black but I have sound or at least had it. The wife changed the channels and now its no sound. I can turn the tv off and on without unplugging it. I was getting ready to order the mainboard when I saw something on the power supply board. Refer to the pics. Is this acceptable? With the power on I get volts through the fuse on the ps board and no volts at the fuses on the main. I found a new ps online for about $80. Whatcha guys think?

I see catmothers settings for the RGB but they look pretty bad on my tv. I read that his build is different than mine. I have the AI option in advanced settings.

Does anyone with that build have some calibrated RGB settings?

I'm glad I decided to check in on this forum before I gave up on my GV47. After a quick test, it turns out I had a bad F3 fuse on my mainboard. I made a quick trip to my local electronic supply store and picked up a replacement fuse. It's not the same as the one in there, but is a 1.5A/125V rated nano-fuse that I was easily able to solder in on the old fuse, and voila, my TV is working again! For a $1.50 part, it sure beats paying a service tech to come out, or worse, buying a whole new set. The most tedious part of the process was removing and replacing all the screws that hold the back cover on!

Vizio GV47L about 2 years old. while playing screen goes black and sound continues. Changing channels still gets sound but black screen. Powering set off and then on returns to normal performance. Anyone have an idea what it might be?
Has anyone else seen that the optical out port on the GV47LF does not accept or hold onto (at least some) digital optical cables? My digital optical cable clips fine into my receiver and it starts to fit into the Vizio's optical audio port, but does not go in very far and is not held in there.

How can I get the PIP to work with the HD channels? I just realized that since the main OTA TV channels (2,4,7,etc) are not longer available and are now all the extended HD type (2-1, 4-1, 7-1, etc); the PIP no longer works. Anyone know of a fix for this? I normally use the PIP when there are too many sporting events going on. Since TiVo doesn't support PIP, I used to use the TiVo for the event that's on cable and the TV OTA in for the show that's on the regular stations. Now that the HD switch has occurred, this seems to not be possible.

Sorry to retrieve this old Thread.

I am looking for a Base-Stand for the GV47L for a Friend of mine and was wondering if anyone has one for Sale.
I checked everywhere on the Internet (incl. Vizio, Vizparts and Ebay) to no success.
So if anyone has one or knows where to get one, I'd appreciate it.
PM me please.
Cheers!

First I want to thank everyone in this thread. I had an F3 fuse failure. I soldiered a 1.5 A fuse to a 6" length of wire and soldiered the wire to the fuse. I got everything back together and now there is a humming from the speakers. Any ideas what could have caused this?

Probably shouldn't use such a long length of wire to piggyback the fuse. It's unlikely that the wire is causing crosstalk/buzz because it is a power rail, but it is still not good to have long lengths of added wire running around in there.

Not sure if my issue is the same as others here but my gv47l would show a picture briefly then blinks out no sound also. The vizio logo would go from white to yellow and the tv shuts off.

Try turning it on again the front control lightens up (power, vol) but vizio logo stays yellow and tv shuts off.

What might be causing this?
I checked my F3 nano fuse it doesn't look blown or discolored.

Like a lot of others, seems like a main board failure.

Another HAPPY F3 fuse replacement. I used a 3A from a string of Christmas tree lights with the fuse behind the plug setup. I know everyone is saying 1.5A but with ALL the F3 issues, maybe this fuse should have been a higher rating. Hey, it was the easy path!!!!!!! Besides, those little buggers sit right on top of the existing fuse PERFECTLY. Took 30 seconds to solder, an hour to take the TV from the wall, open it, close it, and rehang it!!!!!!
Wow, huge thread for this TV. I've read through tons of posts and see a fuse issue but it seems to be related to completely black screens.

I am having an issue where the colors are, for lack of better terms, washed out...really it looks like you are looking at the TV image through a stained glass window. You can tell what the picture is but the colors are not even close to real. Maybe like looking through frosted glass?

Anyone else have this problem, or a fix?

The issue happens on all inputs and I tried switching out cables, same problem on all HDMI and component inputs. When the program cuts to black it looks like red snow dots moving on the black screen.

Any help is appreciated.

Time to unsubscribe. Forgot all about this thread. Mine finally died for good last fall (black screen). Fortunately I bought it before Costco changed their TV return policy. I brought it back and got a nice new 3D TV!

Had one of the HDMI ports go out because of lightning and the other port now sparkles with 1080p content (1080i is fine). Does anyone know if there is a replacement board I can buy for just the HDMI part and if so, where do I get it?

Thanks

I know that in the audio visual world this TV is very outdated. However, mine just keeps working perfectly. Picture is great etc. Only weakness that I can see is the 60 megahertz speed. Sort of want it to go bad so I will be able to replace it. This note will probably seal its fate and it will go out soon!
