The only way to really know what 125 and 440 and 3k is doing -- like any musical instrument -- is practice. So whether you have a home theater, a disco floor, a pristine 2-channel pair of whatever; the trick is to take the controlling device, sit in the sweet spot, and learn.

One time (and Carl from JL was in on this job...) we had to put in a tiered system in a jazz club. There was a stage area, a hallway, another bar area, and a restaurant. The real idea was to time the system so that when you were in each area, the piano from the stage (which was itself a piano bar) was correct in each of the other areas, each about 40+ feet further away.

The look of amazement when he club owner first heard this was priceless! First he said "it isn't on!" then I turned it off. Then he said, "It sounds like a piano!" He had been so used to hearing a crappy speaker representing a piano that when it was all timed out (and gently eq'd) it sounded PERCEPTUALLY REAL and correct for the space you were sitting in!

My suggestion is to find some old digital delay and a 27or 31 band graphic on ebay or someplace, connect 'em in series (the DDL first, BTW) and connect that from a Y connector from your SUB OUT (or a REAL LFE OUT if you have one) ; into the amp for the controller; and then of course while you are sitting in the chair in question, start messing with the controls.

Once you get the delay parameters and response correct for that particular situation it should sound /feel superb.

Of course if your sub was good enough and properly set up in the first place you wouldn't really NEED the physical device, but hey, all this stuff sure is fun.

And here's another hint. When I had my store setup I went to a furniture store and somehow convinced the fellow to let me try about 9 different leather chairs. I told him I was going to buy a FEW, but I judt didn't know WHICH ones. The differences in bass response while sitting in the chairs was incredible. As it turned out I had the sub about 3 feet from the sweet spot, and I swapped the chairs around. Some of them swamped up the bass like a sponge. The one I wound up keeping seemed to make the bass even clearer, perhaps because it might have been soaking up the subsonic while leaving the important 32-70 alone.

Enjoy!
Barry

Here...is this better.

Nearly any of those gadgets such as the BOSS DD3, Beringer DD100, et will work fine.

And if you can afford it and REALLY want to have some fun, there's a Lexicon PCM42; that and a pair of headphones and you won't come up for air for a good week.

Hey this is the guy with the THX Ultra2 Klipsch system you met at the AVS JL event. I just bought a Brand New Behringer Digital Delay DD100 pedal of of eBay. I will try out its effect on the Buttkicker. I also look forward to adjusting the phase on my sub like you described....

Thank you for all your input..

What is the retail price of the F-110?
Retail could float from $1800-$2200. Just a guess,Manville could give a more accurate answer here.

Does anyone know when F110 is coming out? Also, does anyone know how heavy is F110?

Thanks in advance,

I think we're all hiking up to Chicago instead.

Damn I cant believe i missed this too. Would have like to see the fathom in action. Also would have been a perfect opportunity to hint at the need for a Range Rover Sport stealthbox.

I'm starting a little early this year...

so how about Round 2? I will start collecting the info and people who want to attend shortly. Need to coordinate some info with Carl and manville, and then we can get the ball rolling.

A couple of weeks ago, I think Carl had eight or ten F112s across the front of the room... Oh- They had a working prototype of their upcoming in-wall subs that were really impressive...
I put some pics of my visit on my flickr page if anyone is interested.

Last year I missed it by about a week. If you and JL can arrange something during the March 9-21 period, I'll love to drive in from Sanibel.
