I like the fact that the SA8300 firmware supports native output and SATA expansion. The Motorola firmware does neither.
It's highly unlikely both boxes are available from your cable provider, however. Most Scientific Atlanta headends (as configured) do not support Motorola hardware, just as most Motorola headends (as configured) do not support Scientific Atlanta hardware. You're limited to whatever box / platform offered by your cable company.
