spicaly: I've only had a sharp 46d62u to compare to, but I would say its the same if not better.

plastikpyro: On a scale of 1-10 for SD content, "10" (best) CRT, "5" (average) PC TV tuner card and "1" (ass) black & white TV with rabbit ears and foil, I would place the Samsung at "6". Not enough digital noise reduction could make it look good.

Thanks, guys. I had a feeling it was similar to other LCDs, but I saw some posters taking the initial remarks and concluding that the sets are somehow "extra horrible" at SD. It certainly sounds like they're not anything to write home about, but about on par with other 1080p LCDs.

Anyway, I appreciate the prompt feedback. I'm going to return my cloudy 46v2500 to CC tonight, and place an order for a 4661F.

The SD content on my 4661 is no worse than it was on my Sony 46V25L1. I am still tweaking the picture a bit because there are a ton of settings on these TVs.

plastikpyro thanks,

I saw those Pic before and to be honest, your Pics are helping me lean toward buying the 61f.

The first pic is a great exp. of how there is no glare on the panel.

Nice panel frame

Hey plastikpyro,

From your pictures and others on this site, it looks like the speakers on your TV are the same color as the TV (or at least pretty close). Mine is as chrome as chrome can be.

Is it just the pictures making it look like a different color?

I'm sure many of us would appreciate it. Thanks!

I don't think the SD quality is any worse than it was with my Sony 46V25L1. I have my set hooked up via HDMI from an HD Tivo. I am still tweaking my set to get the best picture I can out of it.

No its actually chrome but it reflects the TV's black bezel which gives it a black/gunmetal appearance. The only way you can tell that it's chrome is by shining a light directly at it.

My suspicion about SD on these sets is that Samsung is sacrificing some in the SD department in order to offer stellar HD, which, after all, is what most people are concerned with when deciding to buy a state-of-the-art HD panel. I do understand the SD concern but think as more HD programing is provided, it will become less of an issue. My 2 cents.

Great to know! thanks!

Concerning SD, it will suck on a 46' regardless. Even the mits, which is supposed to be good with SD, stunk so...

I am using the setup box cause of some scrambled channels though (so the tv isn't doing much work).

Mine is in a well lit room which might be the reason i see the chrome more predominately.

anyone care to comment on the 52" 61-series info I posted yesterday?
i have the 4665f and SD doesn't look that great. id say the sharp 46" that i had before might have the edge SD wise. i watch mostly hd programming these days so i really couldn't care less about SD quality.

Repositioning yourself is exactly the simple way to confirm, great to hear. Now how is the daytime glare?

Have any of the 61 or 65/66 owners compared the two panels?

I'm curious what the 65/66 owners thoughts are regarding this new "Super Clear" screen, as there is an obvious difference comparing the pictures posted here.

Nice Google retrieval, one thing I noticed at the top of the spreadsheet was

"*Includes All ENERGY STAR Qualified Models Submitted to EPA, Including Models that Are Not Available in the U.S. and Models that May No Longer Be Available in the Market."

Still, it gives hope that a 5261 may yet emerge. I think last year the 52's were a bit behind the rest. Interesting...

EDIT: The owners manual PDF from Samsung for the 5265 shows models:
4061
4065
4661
4665
5265
which all share the same or similar electronics I presume. I think that does not bode well for a 5261 model.

My previous Sammy did sd digital well but sd analog even worse than one would expect from analog. Which SD do you have?

Savage,

SD aside, how satisfied are you with your new set? Is glare a problem? Any other "nice little surprises". Thanks.

i love it. i can't see any clouds or backlight leakage. the only thing i don't like is the slight amount of overscan with component, but its really the smallest minute detail. the hd picture quality is wonderful. also, color is way more accurate than the 46" sharp that i took back yesterday. the sharp had a red push, but skin tone seems right on the money with this set. this set also seems to have less motion blur than the sharp did. i really don't notice it with sports or games and i have watched a little nfl from my dvr and some college ball, as well as played gears of war and graw2. so far so good. this set is looking like a keeper. the glare really isn't that bad. i am viewing it in a bright room right now watching american chopper and the only way i see glare is if i view it from off side a bit. but the stand swivels so you can just turn the set to face you. i was suprised that in the box the stand was already attached to the tv. you dont have to assemble it or anything.

Glad to hear you really enjoy your new set, savage1005. I guess the question most users are wondering right now is where to purchase it.
savage - is your SD digital or analog? Also, how is the color temperature on the set? Previous Sammy were very cool, color temperatures much too high except movie mode.

It's sounding like these panels are the closest thing to the fabled "Holy Grail" sets we have been dreaming about. One more quick question: Did the Sharp you return have the overscan with the same connections? Is this just a Samsung thing? Thanks.
i am currently using an analog digital signal from the cable box. i'll try hdmi later tonite and see if it makes the SD picture better. i can believe how many inputs this set has.
the tv picture mode is on cool-1 right now , so it looks cool. i haven't really fiddled around with the picture settings yet, nor do i have time to till i get home from work tonite around 11:00. but i'll play around with it and post about it later. i am off to go get a stand so i can't answer any more questions for now.

"Did the Sharp you return have the overscan with the same connections? "

no, it could do 1:1 over component. it was a nice feature but the huge vertical bands all over the place turned me off from it. it was REALLY bad.

Not a deal breaker, but one has to wonder why Samsung cant' achieve the same thing

i have one question.

I have been looking into the 4095, but the new 4065F has caught my eye. I was just wondering which one would be a better tv. the 95 will be cheaper but the 65 has more features.

just wanted to know your comments on it.

thanx

Ready to buy in 1-2 weeks. Its the 4661f or 4665f. I have a pool room over the garage with full klipsche refference surround sound, denon receiver, cable hd dvr, and xbox 360 w/hd dvd drive. So I dont care about tv sound. The blinds nearly block all light during day, so room can get very dark. So in this case would the 4665 be the best idea? I'm leaning towards this for the extra contrast, and hoping to confirm that glare shouldnt be a problem in a dark room. I'm replacing a philips 42" 768 from costco thats having problems, so I'm expecting this tv to be awesome! Anyone else feel the 65 has better color and picture? Anyone seen them side by side? Thanks guys, love your posts!

Here are 3 pics of the clouding issue I posted about the other day on the 4066F. To be honest it is really faint and nowhere near what I've been seeing online with the Sony Bravia's. Don't let the 1st pic deter you as it is definitely an overexageration as I set the shutter speed to 3 seconds and is nowhere near how it looks in person. Taken in as dark a room as I could get it. The 2nd and 3rd pics are closer to what I'm seeing in person. The top left corner is the worst spot. Upon wiping down the screen, I put a little bit of pressure and it seemed to help with slight clouding in the lower mid range and maybe a tad with the upper left corner. I put slight pressure on the frame as well. Either way, I'm picking up another set today (not returning the one I have yet just in case the new set is worse) and hopefully the one I currenlty have is an isolated case. You can also see in the pics some stuck/dead pixels.
