what is bad about Yamaha amps now with this years models?

For me, I have to climb the ladder for features - source switching - rather than power. I have a HTR-5450 that has about 60 x5 watts and it never even breaths hard before my walls are shaking and the family is complaining. I have little concern about whether 90 vs 100 watts is going to be a problem for me.

What do you expect to gain from HDMI 1.3 receivers with built-in TrueHD, Dolby Digital+ or DTS-HD Master audio decoders?

First you would need a player that can output bitstream high def audio. Have any been announced? It would require turning off any interactive audio. Seems there are unresolved issues with that whole mess.

Not only that, but why do you care where the decoding gets done? If it's done in the receiver, the PCM should be bit identical to the player. There is the issue of jitter. I personally don't buy into that being an issue over HDMI though.

Just curious as to what you expect from 1.3 and receiver side decoding.

Trying to get a handle on the lines:

RX-V2700/RX-V1700
No replacement yet

RX-V681
Looks like a new price point? 25 watts less power than the 1700, but better video processsing. Perhaps it's in response to a higher demand for video processing than output power.

RX-V661
Definitely less power than the RX-V659 but adds HDMI. A nice price point for HDMI, but sad to see the apparently excellent RX-V659 overshadowed. I make the same guess as above, that the market is asking for HDMI, so something else had to go.

HTR-6080
At an MSRP of just under $1000, this looks like the matching model for the RX-V861

In summary, they added HDMI to more price points while removing power at those levels.

Now the wait for the online sellers to lower the price of the HTR-6060 compared to the RX-V661. I aslo wonder if the lack of a HTR-6050 will help drop the street price of the 6060 this year. Last years lineup had a lot of price compression making the 5960 look much better compared to the ~40 cheaper 5950. I want the 6060 for 350 shipped, just have to wait.
