HD camcorder -- how to archive/display in HD?

Hi,

I'm pretty new to the camcorder market. I recently picked up a Sharp Aquos HDTV and LOVE it. I'd like to use it to display the home movies I record on a yet-to-be-purchased camcorder.

For the harddrive camcorders --- which ones will PLAYBACK at a decent display like 720p or 1080i? And more importantly --- when I need to archive the content to a DVD burner because the hard drive is getting full, now I'm down to a 480i content, right? How does one ever replay archived content back at a HD display like 720p or 1080i? Do the camcorders support the ability to "retransfer" the content from a computer BACK to the camcorder, so the camcorder can display at the better resolution? Or are there any DVD players out there with HDMI cables that will simply take the mpeg file and display it to the TV @ 720p/1080i?

Confused re: how all this works.

Regarding the tapes (HDV) vs hard drive (AVCHD), let's say I run out of room on the camera, so I take it off the hard drive (and archive on computer). Can it be placed 'back' on the hard drive FROM the computer at a later date? If so, that sounds pretty cool --- I assume since it's on a hard drive, there is a menu on the camcorder and I can instantly play whatever is on the hard drive. Conversely, I'm assuming that the tape-based solution(s) don't have a menu for playback, and I have to physically rewind or fast-forward the tape until I get to where I want..... is that correct, or am I giving the hard-drive (AVCHD) solution more credit than it deserves?

Cool, thanks. And from what I've read, I could also take the files and burn them to a standard-def DVD, put that DVD in a PS3, and the PS3 would play back in high def? That's awesome.

I looked at the SR1 and love it, but hate the $500 premium over it's tape-based peers. Let's say I had a tape-based unit, and used it's utilities to bring the video over to my PC, which would be saved in some kind of format (but obviously not the same native format as the SR1). Are there any utilities that will convert the tape-originated-video now on my PC, over to the format used by the SR1, so I could copy to a DVD to put in a PS3? I'd like that instead of having to pop the tape back into the unit to playback.
