Wow, that's amazing. The press release and initial info already mentions a replacement. The cycle in technology is getting shorter and shorter SJ

At least this press release is unambiguous. It teaches me something. Now I learn HDMI 1.3 != "HD Audio Bitstream output" capability.

So now I'm going to wonder all those HDMI 1.3 players, (XE1/XA2/BDP1200/PS3/etc), can they pass hidef audio to my new Pio 94 receiver ?

Good question...

I know for sure the sil9134 chip in the HD-XA2 and the BD-P1200 have the capability they just require a firmware update.

we have some official pictures and price from Japan now :

http://pioneer.jp/blu-ray/

160,000 yen.

Looking at the picture of the back

http://pioneer.jp/blu-ray/img/LX70_back.jpg

there is a big java logo ....the HD1 doesn't have this. I hope this means this model has got a real complete feature set of BD-Java.

1695 euros over here in Finland. That's 2300 US dollars. Wonder how many they think they're gonna sell...

That's only 10% more than their top DVD player, DV-989AVi-S.

Yeah, so? DV-989 won't play Blu-rays. My point is that Pioneer is pricing their player wrong. The time when first-adopters were willing to pay huge sums for their BD-player is in the past. Panasonic's "new" BD10A is only $600 in the USA. It's far too late in this game to release an overpriced player.

Which is why it's cheaper

The Pioneer Blu-ray player is their high end as is priced as such.

No but the 70A version will.

I actually got my lx70 swapped by the 70A by pioneer as the lx70 was said to decode dolby true hd but it did not.The 70A decodes dolby true hd and dts hd.the dts hd master is only sent bitstream.
