Ceiling speaker grill

I just put in my celiing speakers and I noticed there is a thin layer of foam on the inside of the speaker grill. I figured this was just packaging but it appears to be glued. Is this supposed to stay in the grill?

Am I a moron? Anybody who has put in ceiling speakers should know. Please?

The material there is supposed to stay in place.

If I'm correct it holds the grill in place.

I have several sets of Speakercrafts throughout my house. They all had what I would describe as a "thin white ScotchBrite pad" in them. I thought they were for protecting the speakers when painting, and I've removed mine. Although, unlike the OP, these pieces were not glued in.

If I'm wrong, other SpeakerCraft owners, feel free to yell at me...

Now you guys have me thinking. But if I remember right they are to hold the grill in place so it doesn't slip off.

Going to make me get out the ladder.

Mine stay in just fine without the 'foam'.

Crap. Just reread my Aim7 Three manual. The material should stay. I was getting that stuff confused with the paint masks, which are plastic.

You'd think that would affect the higher frequencies, though...

Don't know about frequencies, but they might rattle.
