My Sony Wega 30" HDTV tube exhibits an annoying horizontal quantization effect with material with a lot of edges. Then when the scene moves, it's like the dots crawl across the edge, not unlike old PS2 games. It's worst with things at an angle like powerlines. Anime is bad because it's all lines and edges. But some scenes in 2001: A Space Odyssey were just crawling like a MGS2 cutscene last night.
I've noticed it with my Computer and PS2 (s-video) and my cheap magnavox DVD player (component). Is this an issue with my TV or with should I go ahead and get a decent DVD player?
I'm not sure what to call this effect. It's like angled lines become fine sawtooths instead of angled lines. And circles will be fine on the sides, but the top and bottom quadrants are like fine slices with a cap.
