hey i just purchased an HP m7780n with a built in HD-DVD drive and let me just say, I LOVE IT.

questiontime!

1. Which program I can should use to view HD-DVDs, does it really make a difference?

2. What kind of drive is this? is it a toshiba drive branded with HPs markings or what?

anyways its pretty neat having one of these on my comp in addition to the one on my TV....just excited.

Congrats on the new system! I think it's probably best to use the HD DVD software that came with the HP, probably an OEM version of Power DVD HD or their own playback software. As for the type of HD DVD drive, my guess is that it's a Toshiba, though it could even be an NEC drive. I saw one of these packages a few weeks back at my local Future Shop, and it was VERY nice.

I would stick with the OEM software that came with the computer for now. The current software players will be unable to play HD DVDs released after April it looks like so you should be able to get a free upgrade if you stick with the OEM version till then.

Grats on the new system, come back and let us know how you like it.
