Pioneer Elite Plasma system -- PRO-R06U but which screen??

Thread Starter
I am trying to figure out which particular Elite plasma screen is part of a system that includes the Pioneer Elite PRO-R06U media receiver. After googling all over the place, it appears to me that this particular media receiver has been included in Elite plasma systems other than the PRO-1130HD.

The PRO-1130HD includes a screen model PRO506PU, but this particular package has the PRO-R06U and a screen model that starts w/"PDP-", not "PROxxx".

Can anyone tell me exactly which plasma screens Pioneer has packaged w/the PRO-R06U media receiver in the Elite line?
I thought they discontinued the separate "receiver" with the 2006 models.

Meaning that this must be an Elite from 2005 or earlier?

Yep. The current version is the 1140HD which came out late last summer.

Well I know the 1130HD included the PRO-R06U and I believe the 1120HD included the PRO-R05U. What's confusing is that the Elite plasma screens included w/the 1130HD and 1120HD are the PRO-506U and PRO-505U respectively.

Yet this system has a PRO-R06U paired w/a screen model starting w/"PDP-", which I thought is the designation for Pioneers non-Elite models?

the 1130 and 930 had the same media center unit, the only difference was the display size. Those were the last elite's with the seperate media box (see my sig)

OK, so what the model number on the side of your 1130HD plasma display unit?

The box (from your pics) says PRO-506U as expected, but what does it say for display unit model on the back of it? PDP- something?

Here are a few pics of what the Elite plasma that I need to figure out exactly which model it is. As you can see if in the last one, the actual display unit model number did not come out too good. And I can't get any more pics than these.

Hmmm, let's see....did you call Pioneer (800) 421-1404 and ask them? Why can't you get better pics? Or ask the person that gave you the pics? Is this on eBay? Odd questions...

Yeah, I guess this question does seem a little odd. lol

This is the situation -- I'm buying a condo along w/everything in it, including the Elite plasma. These are some pics I took when I visited some time ago. However, I can not get back in anytime soon b/c the owner is out of town and the realtor is not nearby.

I'm trying to figure out how old this particular plasma is b/c to decide if I want it or not, since I already had plans for a current gen flat panel. If it's a few years old, then:

1) I want something better
2) The owner probably paid $15K for it and probably doesn't realize how much plasma prices have dropped

I've searched the Pioneer web site, but the last few Elite models all look identical, and there is no mention at all of which media receivers were included.

Alright Stephen,

I'm trying to do what I can to help. I sent Pio an email:

"Hello,
I have a friend who has the PRO-R06U media receiver, but we cannot find the model # of the panel it goes to. Can you supply the possible panels that media receiver was designed to work with? I need both the package model # (plasma screen and media receiver package) and also the model # of the panel itself, for example PRO-930 or PDP-930. I believe the panel itself starts with the model # PDP-, but I am unable to find the remaining numbers.

Thank you for your help,
Jeff
"

and here is what I got back:

"Thank you for contacting Pioneer Electronics, Inc.
That media receiver is part of the Elite PRO-930HD and the Elite PRO-1130HD plasma packages. The panel numbers are PRO436PU (43") and PRO506PU (50").

Thank You,

Lance
Customer Service Representative
"

I just sent a reply, so we'll see what happens:

"Thank you very much Lance!

Is it possible that the panel could have been labeled PDP-506? Did Pioneer ever interchange model numbers PRO and PDP? I know it's an odd question, but my friend keeps telling me he's been told the panel that went with the receiver has a label PDP-XXX on it. I'm trying to help him, neither one of us have access to the panel right now, so he may have to wait until he does.

Thanks again for your time,
Jeff
"

The reason I asked this is because I think some of their older products may have used PDP instead of PRO.....or maybe that panel does not even go with that media receiver. I don't know if you can hook a media receiver up to another panel or not.
IMHO if it is an 1130HD i would keep it as this is the finest 768p plasma you can find anywhere, again IMHO. i wish i had one myself instead of my 5070.
Yep, I'd place my bet it's a 1120. One thing throws me off...and it's the pictures on Pio's website for the 1120 and 1130, also MaliciousBraham's pics of his 1130. The speakers don't mount the same. The speakers from your pic looks more like the 1120. Are you sure that the media receiver is not a PRO-R05U? Even if it is a R06U, I wondered if they paired it with a 1120 labeled PDP-505. Could be that they had a 1120 package, the media receiver went bad, and they replaced it with a 1130 media receiver - the PRO-R06U?

Thanks for all the help crazyone. Definintely above and beyond the call of duty of you.

Yestersday, I sent the message to Pioneer customer support, got the same response, and sent the same follow-up question about "PDP-". So let's see how these two emails end.

I have the pics above from Pioneer web site as well and have studied them along w/my own. Here's what is confusing me --

1) the model number for the display unit paired w/the PRO-R06U starts w/"PDP-" and is not PRO-506U, which is specified as part of the 1130HD package.

2) The media receiver shown in the pic of 1120HD from Pioneer web site is clearly *not* the PRO-R06U unit. Presumably, it's the PRO-R05U.

But your theory about replacing just the media receiver would explain this I think.

Yeah, if it *is* the 1130HD then I have a dilemna, mainly, the 50" size. I have a 56" RPTV now and have never considered going smaller. My plans were for something at least 60" or bigger. LCD or plama maybe depending on prices, or else a big microdisplay-based RPTV.

One question about comparing my pics to Pioneer's pics -- in Pioneer's pics it clearly looks to me like the 1130 display has a glossy black finish while the 1120 display has a matte-black finish. Does anyone know if that is the way 1120's and 1130's were produced finish-wise?

OK, I finally got the broker to get back in the unit and read me that number off the display that starts w/"PDP-". It's PDP-S36, which a quick google search tells me is the model number of the speakers, not the display.

So I think it's safe to say this is in fact an 1130HD.
I think you're right...

Check this out if you haven't already - Pioneer parts for the 1130: http://parts.pioneerelectronics.com/...lNum=PRO1130HD
Look at the bottom of the list, you'll see the S/M and OM for the PDP-S36.

Also check this out - the manual for the PDP-S36 speakers. Pg 2 talks about an "Air mount" or "Flush mount".

....and that would make sense since the pic you showed is the LEFT speaker!! Surprised we didn't catch that!

Yeah, now that I know that this PDP number is for the speakers that big label at bottom of my pic that says "LEFT" kinda jumps out at me. Didn't even notice it before. lol

Thanks for the help in figuring this out krazy!

I have a PRO-1130HD. The display number is located on the lower right bottom corner of the display

It should be: Display PRO-506PU + Media receiver PRO-R06U = PRO-1130HD

I have a pdp 504pu 50 inch plasma unit and I need a media receiver, I was told by pioneer that the pdp r06u or pro r06u would work. Anyone can help me locate a media receiver I would greatly appreciate it. Also the pdp r05u or pro r05u would work for me.

I had my house broken into a year ago and they stole my 1130HD panel, but left behind the PRO-R06U unit and the custom cable. I'd be willing to sell it.
I also have an 1130 HD panel, but my R06U is broken and the two year warranty is up. Does anyone have a unit that they are interested in selling? Also, in one of the above post it was said
" Also the pdp r05u or pro r05u would work for me."
Is there any truth to this, Pioneer has been NO help. Thanks

If you do have the unit for sale, contact me @ vigor33@yahoo.com
