For all those hannspree xv 32 owners our there:
What do you have your picture settings on?

I just bought this set and I cant seem to find the right balance for some of these settings. I am not too impressed with the PQ but I know I can get it better with some tweaking.

What input are you using? I can't get the ATSC tuner looking good at all, but VGA seems to work very well. I got my PC 1:1 pixel mapped (1360x768). Color temp. is warm, blacklight dark, brightness around 50, contrast around 60. The brightness and contrast settings will depend on what signal you're feeding it (ie PC levels vs. video levels). Xbox 360 looks great over VGA as well.

Using VGA the only real issue I have is the color banding (also called false contouring, I think). It's not that big of a deal, but it does accentuate macroblocks in compressed video.

I haven't tried component or HDMI yet. I hope they don't look as awful as the internal tuner.

Well i am using the component input for my dish 211 hd reciever. Although the cables i am using are pretty bad, so that maybe the problem. I am soon going to use HDMI for the reciever and I will let you know how it looks. But I tried using the CNET reccommended settings and I was not impressed.

The set does not look good when high motion scenes. Lots of bluring (i guess that means shadowing?)

The cnet settings don't work for me either. The contrast is needlessly low and I think the set actually looks better using the preset "warm" temperature.

Have you tried adjusting things in the service menu? (menu 991) There is an "advanced" section there that lets you disable some so-called picture enhancement features. Try messing with that and see if you like the changes.

Is this your first HDTV? A lot of people think satellite HD looks bad, so you may be at the mercy of your source. Have you hooked up a dvd player?

Also, unless your cables are really bad, they probably won't make much of a difference to the picture. Whatever came with the box is fine.

This is not my first HDTV. I have a Pioneer Elite 43inch plasma for my bedroom that is awesome. PQ is by far the best i've seen on the Pio. As far as PQ using dish network, i have no complaints with my Pioneer.

This Hanspree LCD TV was for my sister's room. Well the cables I am using are some crappy rca plugs (the red, white, and yellow) but i am using them for component. Hopefully that isnt the reason why the PQ is not impressive.

Chris, what service menu are you speaking of? What settings and inputs are u using currently?

Get to the service menu by pressing Menu 991. Exit by turning off the set. Stay away from the EEPROM and Factory Reset options, obviously.

I described my settings above, but so far I've only used VGA and the OTA HD tuner. The VGA picture quality looks quite good to me but the tuner looks terrible. The tuner's colors are off. Reds look pink or maroon and the picture looks blocky and not at all smooth.

This is my first LCD TV (I have a CRT HDTV and a DLP projector) and the only other reference point I have are LCD computer monitors. Hopefully you didn't expect it to look better than a Pioneer Elite!

You could try using HDMI or real component cables, I guess. LCDs all have some amount of blurring on motion, but I don't think this set is too bad. What do you have the sat. receiver set to?

I've recently acquired a Hannspree xv 32" LCD TV. I'm attempting to receive over-the-air HDTV. I have an amplified antenna connected to the DTV port on the left side of the unit. When accessing the menu while input is set to DTV the menu will disappear whenever the arrow key is pressed to access the DTV menu for channel autoscan. I've tried resetting the TV to factory settings using menu 991. The previous owner says he was able to receive OTA HDTV signals in the past. The TV has been moved since then. Is it possible the ATSC tuner card is modular and is no longer seated properly? Also, could a firmware update fix this?
Thanks
