Cheap coating opportunity for USA prisms - Page 5

There were only 50 for the one batch I was third to last. You had to pay up front to receive spot on the list which is kind of risky. All will start in to receive them in mid July I hope . I don't think they have enough interest to start another 50. I notice they have 51 in line so, some might have second thoughts and you may take some ones place.

I can't figure out how to register in their forum so I can't speak to them my self. I sent email and get no reply. I just have to wait till July

Thats cool, I guess I have nothing to loose asking if they have extras.
If not then maybe we can start a new run here with CF and L&L.

I was able to register on the site, it's the same as most other forums so I just filled out the form as best I could. It was excepted. and few seconds later I got a email to complete the registration.
I think it was
Username

email
email
do you accept rules
combo box to match the image
submit button was on the left

Would viewing the page through the Google translator help?

I guess the french guys didn't appreciate my post in English and it was removed from the forum.

It makes sense they wouldn't want people posting messages in languages other then French, I'm sure AVS would do the same thing.

But Hey, it was worth a try...

Allensbad,
I was in the 3rd batch but since he didnt get sufficient numbers, skhattane added a few more prisms to the second batch. Send him a PM and check if he has any more left

Snowkirk,
thanks for the tip, I'll do just that.

FYI
I got a email from skhattan (Sam) and they do not have any extras and will not be ordering again.

Always a day late....

Put a message on the site you found in english and I believe they will respond to you. Good luck.

hmmm... I wonder in what way this thread is an authorized power buy.

AVS figured that out after so many of us sent our payment. It would have been
helpful if we were warned before we put down our money.

Anyway... I will not be setting up my CIH. So if I get my set of prisms
I am going to sell them. I paid for it combining with another AVS member and
my friend. So my prisms may not be packed separately.

I will post when I get them. I hope it is not illegal to put that kind of sale post. Since I bought them through this forum I guess I should be allowed to sell them here. In case I am not allowed, of course I will put it on ebay or videogon.
So watch for it then. I hope this post will not be deleted.

In future it would be a good idea not to allow any such group buys at all
unless a pro manufacturer gets prior permission from AVS and the power
buy is posted by AVS.

It's not or it would have been listed as a sticky for the duration of the buy...

This is exactly why it was deleted. It was not authorized by AVS and you did not buy the prisms through this forum. You bought them from skhattane through paypal. AVS had nothing to do with it and if they were giving it the thumbs up they would provide the thread and link. If something goes wrong people try to hold AVS accountable for something they had no part in.

I believe their is a member to member forum here where you can list your item for sale.

Sorry for hijacking guys.
and why is this thread not deleted yet. This is not an AVS authorized buy either.

if AVS had not allowed this kind of threads in the first place no one would have
bought it. Sam did not make a private announcement. He posted in this forum and
that is how people came to know about it. AVS is not responsible but they should
be more vigilant and try to stop such threads as soon as they are posted instead of
doing it after some 50 people paid the money. Now it is hard to communicate regarding that
buy.

Just deleting a thread after so many people had committed to the buy is not fair.

I guess AVS should get that thread back untill people get their prisms. The mods
reply as soon as they find any "where to buy" posts. Why did it take so long
for them to realize that it was not authorized and why is this thread still here.

This is called discrimination.

Here at AVS I've seen other languages posted and translated.

Mupi, use Bable Fish to talk to the French guys to find your prisms. It is fairly accurate, though does come up with some comical mistakes. I am the guy that posted photos of "the destructibles". It was supposed to translate the word to "the incredibles"...

Mupi,

I guess the French buy morphed into something substantially beyond the scope of this thread. Maybe the website sign-in and Paypal aspects were too commercial.

This thread was started as a diy deal in which I referred other avs members to two sellers (CF and L&L) in which I have no material interest and the coating thing was set up as a one-time, ad hoc arrangement. I see a difference.

No one in their right mind would perceive AVS as responsible in any way for the results.

I think a little diy group organizing should be tolerated. It builds community and contributes to the overall experience of participation on avs. Direct solicitations from sellers are not, however, in the same category.

Mupi,
Though your experience is unfortunate, I agree with Richard totally. We participated in the "Coating" deal with fully awareness that it is not AVS sponsored. The forum is a place to share ideas and have fun with doing these things. There are lots of reviews of the equipments on this site on which many users base their purchases. Now it won't be appropriate to hold AVS responsible if something goes wrong with that equipment.
About the powerbuy, AVS cannot be hold liable for the purchasing experience. Go through the AVS disclaimer at the end of powerbuy sticky and you will know.

Hope you are able to sell the prisms and put this bad experience behind soon.
A Dude.

I bought a pair of prisms from Crystal Factory and shipped to LL Optical Service (Richard Larue) for coating over a month ago. Richard gave me a discount if I could wait 2 weeks. He is missing over 2 weeks. I called almost every day and left messages after messages. The company don't even bother to call me back. Don't know how to get my prisms back. Is www.llopt.com reliable?
I'd say so. The others reported very positive comments. You have to consider they might have a large work load on right now, so your job had been cued...

What worries me is I emailed, called and left messages almost everyday for over two weeks, but no response from him or the company. Richard seems like a nice guy. I have no idea what's happened to him.

Marks is right, a lot of factory type companies shutdown for the 4th weekend and some for 2 weeks. I'd say that's a good possibility.

well I didnt say that AVS is liable for anything.

It shouldnt have taken that long for AVS to figure out that the thread was
commercial and then when some 50 guys had committed to the
buy they just deleted the thread. Now we have to try to communicate
using some frech translating software!

Anyway...I hope we all get our prisms.

BTW in what way is CAVX's advertising different from what Sam did.
Isnt CAVX's advertising commercial?. It is not sponsored by AVS but
he has a link to his web site which sells the prisms. That is not
sponsored by AVS. Different rules for different people?
Richard (LL Optical) contacted me after the Fourth. The company was busy, unorganized and in the process of moving. Hope they have the time to coat mine soon.

Are you refering to THIS LINK?

If so, the link is a part of my website and is about CIH in general. Yes it does features links to all to the sites of other manufactures of anamorphic products including ISCO, Panamorph and Prismasonic, not just my own.

Whilst you're free to disagree, I don't think including a link is the same as starting a thread on it...

From my observations, Mark is definitely an asset here, and always seems eager to help. He never comes across as trying to sell anything.

His link contains one of the better explanations of CIH for the layman, and it is a must read for anyone getting acquainted with this technology.

well it also sells his DIY prism. So that is commercial. If the information
is an asset just leave the information and get rid of the
advertisement about selling the prisms. Just because someone is an
asset it doesnt mean that he or she can use this forum to sell their
product, unless there are double standards i.e if the mods have allowed
him.

If that is allowed then anyone can give a link to a web site that
sells their product. In otherwords Sam could have just posted a
link to a web site from where we could have bought the prisms.
That is no way different from posting a thread about a group buy.

Basically no one should be allowed to use this forum as an avenue to
sell their product, whether they post a thread or include a link in their
web site which sells their product.

This was interesting at first. That has passed. Unsubbing...

well both ways one is selling his or her product which is not sponsored
by AVS. So either way it is illegal.

If the information in your web site is valuable then just leave the
information and delete the commercial portion or create a
separate web site for the information and incude that link alone.

Is AVS sponsoring the manufacturing/selling of your prisms or
Are you sponsoring AVS forum in any means financially?

If not, then you cant use this forum as an avenue
to sell your stuff unless the mods have set double standards.

I have made my point very clear.

Let the mods decide whether this thread is in any way legal compared to
Sams thread and let them decide if it is ok to include a link in the
signature which points to a site that sells someone's product which is
not authorised by AVS.
I totally disagree. The page has links to Runco, Isco, Prismasonic, and Panamorph. It also has a link to Aussiemorphic.

If the link was meant to market his product, why would he include links to competing products? Why isn't he bashing competitors products? The spirit of the page is educational. It would be just as easy for me to buy a Panamorph lens from that page.

Bottom line, he has explained CIH in an easy to understand way, and detailed all the options one has when choosing a lens.
