X2 5200 vs e6400 vs e6600

O no, not another AMD vs Intel thread.
Ready for my "07" Vista Premium dual core build. Due to all the buzz over the Core 2 Duo, I was ready to pull the trigger on the e6600. With MB (g965 micro) and 2g ddr800 it is about 550.00. For fun, I setup a "wish list" using an AMD X2 5200, ASUS amd690 microATX, and the same 2g of memory came to 420.00. After googling and reading review I compared the e6400 with the same intel MB and memory and it came to 460.00.
It seems that the amd is very aggressivly priced at 205.00 (2.6g, 2x1mb cache) and the ASUS MB has hdcp and (optional) hdmi via addon card.
From what I can gather on researching, the e6600 outperforms both, but will it be worth the over 100.00 premium for media center use? I am not planning on doing the HDDVD, BluRay yet (burners are still up there in price), but will wind up with something, currently doing only OTA for HD.
Any feedback would be great. JB

Did you investigate the E4300? It can be easily overclocked to 2.4 GHz (that is what I did). The E4300 is a lot cheaper than the E6600, and when overclocked, should rival the 5200+ AMD.

If you don't need it, you don't need it. It's only a little faster than the e6400 anyway.

As the other guy said, get a e4300 and overclock it. Even with stock cooling it'll go as fast as an e6700, and probably faster.

By the way, you don't need 800mhz, 666 will do fine. Even if you buy the former, it'll only run at 533 unless you overclock. Better to get 666 for the headroom though, since it costs about the same.
