I saw on the FAH boards that there are no longer any non-expiring units. (I'm a new poster, so I can't link to the thread. It's in the Windows forum, and a thread called No Work Units?) So, using that setting will put you in an endless loop.

I've been trying to run one on my desktop, and the first attempt crashed. The next one seems to be progressing, but for some reason does not seem to be saving any of its progress - either in a logfile or scratch files. Hopefully this one completes - then I may try re-installing fresh. I started it yesterday morning and it's supposed to finish in 12 hours or so.

UGH. That's not good. It downloaded at 100000 unit and it's doing work on it now. I think it is a nonexpiring unit so that means it will freak out when it tries to send it back?.....in a month

I joined the team. I have a few computers that I have folding and I just need to finish running the cat5 cable to my consoles (just moved into a new house on Monday) and I will have my PS3 folding. I might try and get the cables run tonight.. we will see

I just joined. I kicked in my 20 WU's done so far. All I had to do was enter the team number under Identity and join team correct? It shows 55280 as my team.

You have to leave the folding program up on the PS3. If you don't open it, it won't auto-start.

I wonder how far team AVS will go? Top 500? Top 100? Maybe even top 50?

Roughly 9,300,000 points from 100. With almost 500,000 points so far in the first 10 days, we could be at that level in six months if our rate of folding doesn't slow down.

For those of you with multi-core, get the SMP beta client and run it. You score a whopping 1,700 points per work unit. Just make sure you have at least three days before the deadline otherwise you'll time out. (found that out the hard way) And if any of you have a quad core machine, you should easily be able to rack up roughly 2000 points per day.

If you press triangle over the Folding @ home icon you'll get options for auto-starting.

Would I earn more points per day with the SMP client running- than two (non-graphical) clients running at once on a E6400 core 2 ?

I see you down there mcw00k!

I'm in 76th place (only 7 WUs), but I'm going hunting for the #1 spot.

Ironically, the current leader is named PS3. Who are you, show yourself to us.

tindizzle: how many CPU's do you have running? Also what do you have going?!?!?! Everyone, we need you to get your computers folding as well. We need to get AVS folding. What we really need is someone who works IT and has access to com rooms... we need some serious folding farms!!!

Heh, PS3 is just those who joined the team but did not change the default name.

I have one PS3 and one 2.4GHz P4 Core 2 Duo running the SMP client.
The "unfair advantage" I've had over the past few days is that both machines have spent 100% of their time folding, uninterrupted, for four straight days while I've been in the hospital.

And BTW, I'm just fine, at home resting comfortably. Anyone who wants to know more can find out in the Qualia 006 Owner's Thread in the Rear Projection forum.

Go Team AVS!

Glad to hear you are ok Zechman. Out of curiousity how did that phantom arm/shoulder pain happen?

To bad no picture of the look on the nurse's face when you said that... lol
post #237 of 1815
So far I have a PS3, an AMD X2 and a Quadcore running. Although on both the dual core and quadcore I'm only running the singlecore client. It is enough to keep me up in the ranks. Although I'm going to have a week off starting on the 13th, so I'll drop considerably.

Great work overall team!
I have an old 3ghz PC, an AMD 3200 laptop, and my work machine going. Unfortunately, I'm falling behind today because my PS3 wifi drops constantly. I can tell from the stats that it's idling right now, disconnected, while I'm at work.

I'm surprised how well the folding program works in the background -- I can run it at 100% and it doesn't bother me at all. Even watched an episode of Top Gear on the laptop without a hitch, other than a bit of fan noise.
Wait a second guys... how am *I* supposed to get to the #1 position if you guys keeping adding machines?

Good thing I have wifi... if not, I might have fallen behind since this condo I'm staying in here on spring break only has wireless....

....I'm going to have to start throwing every piece of idle hardware I can get my hands on to this project.... but it'll be another week before I get back home.

How long does it take for stats to show? I joined yesterday afternoon and have checked and I am not on the AVS stats list yet.
