Wow.. we have a new leader... Zechman has beat out tindizzle!!!!!!!!!!
Well, I am folding two PS3s and a X2 4200 and can't manage to break the Top 20. I don't mind keeping them running since their byproduct (heat) is helping to warm the house. However, as soon as May 1st rolls around I am going to cut back to 7 folds per week. As much as I enjoy folding, there is no way I am going to pay $$$ to cool these little heaters during the summer; every dollar spent on folding will likely cost another dollar on cooling; plus, folding during the summertime doesn't seem to be the "green" thing to do. Anyway, I am going to fold all I can for the next few weeks before shutting down the reactors for the summer. Full scale folding will resume in November.

The best idea is to convince others to fold a few times per week for the AVS Forum Folding@Home Team.

Anyway, please feel free to add me to your buddy list (XMB, RFOM) and shoot me an invite (RFOM, MotorStorm, Splinter Cell) - Sure, I stink...but I have fun dying.

I hear you about the folding during the summer time. I am lucky that I have a bunch of my computers in the basement which is nice and cold during the summer. But, the CPU's that I have running in my office will most likely go back to their normal state once the summer rolls around. I try to be green....

ill mail ya my Pentium 3 if you pay for shipping... lol

My electricity cost is $0.09 / kWh. According to the 200W measurement listed earlier it's $0.43 / day, or around $3 / week to fold. I'm ok with that... Really it'd be nice to write off at least $150 / year as a charitible donation though, considering that's what I'm paying.

no quad-core, no care

Heh quad core, I thought about getting one for a moment. But then thought, well its about $1k for the chip alone currently. In addition to the fact that I don't have a 775 socket MB, so would need to buy a new MB... so nah. Opted instead just to upgrade my desktop CPU, Core Duo to Core 2 Duo. That made a pretty significant change in folding speed for not so big cost in price, so I'm rather happy with it. From about 23-24 minutes a frame down to 13 minutes a frame. Also the fact that since its a mobile chip it consumes very little power, around 35 watts at full load. (Green friendly)

One thing to say though, Intel is going to be doing a price drop on quad-core chip I believe 2H of 2007 (I think I read it was going to drop down to around $300 area). That should be rather cool and something to look forward too, quad core for the masses

Lyshen:

What CPU are you using that is for the 775? I do have an Asus socket 775 MOBO and I have p4 3.0 ghz in there and I have been thinking about going Core 2 Duo with her....

Hey there Mike, since you have a P4 in your Asus 775 motherboard, it may or may not accept the Core 2 Duo. You would have to check with Asus to see if it will work. P4 and Core 2 Duo both use socket 775 but due to technical reasons, you possibly may not be able to just do a CPU swap. Find out what model motherboard you have and check with Asus or perhaps post it here and I can check on it.

As for me, I don't have a socket 775 motherboard. My desktop is based on the mobile platform, so it uses Socket M which is 479 pins (or 478 pins as some people say). Previously had the Core Duo (Yonah), so just flashed the bios and popped in the Core 2 Duo (Merom). (Conroe is the desktop codename for Core 2 Duo.)

Mobile on desktop as some people call it is great for desktop systems that are built for low power consumption and heat, which also means low or basically no noise.

Hope that clarifies things for you.

Right on... I also have an HTPC (which I don't use as an HTPC any longer) that has an Asus A8-SLI in there. I will have to check to see if that could accept a Core 2 CPU

The Mb that I have in my PC is an Asus P5GDC-V. It doesn't look like it will support a Core 2 processor Oh, how I wish it would. I guess I will have to look into the other Asus MB that I have in my ex- HTPC. It seems that if I wanted to just upgrade MB/CPU it really wouldn't be all that expensive. I have been looking at Newegg and it looks like a Quad core MB is priced a bit high for my blood.

Two PS3s and one X2 4200. I see that I was just bounced out of the Top 20...

Heh I removed folding from two computers, well more like keep them off so no more folding on them. At the current rate I think I'll be lucky to maintain #5, probably just hang around top 7. I'm barely ahead of Jerz.

gfsiii however is shooting straight up.
riffjim: I take it you are running SMP on your Core 2, what kind of ppd are you seeing? Also, how long is it taking you to complete a % with the SMP?

I just got back from spring break so I had a ps3 offline for about 8hours and I took my dual core laptop out of the picture (was getting WAY too hot for a week straight)... so back to two PS3's and a 3 PC's...

After many problems with SMP I Just finished my first WU!
And a nice jump to 49th place.

I'm getting 832.30 PPD (SMP project 2610) with my E6400 Core 2 Duo. It takes 1 day 19 hours & 55 min. to compleat one WU and 26MIN for one %.

Heh you'll probably take back fifth position then. I got 1 PS3 and 3 computers going left now. Although the computers aren't folding full time either.

I checked my vista pc at the house and the automatic updates cost me valuable folding time... darn automatic reboots... We'll see if I can catch back up, you've been churning out some point.
