I know we have a general sales' thread but i think this deserves its own thread
http://www.amazon.com/gp/bestsellers...d%5Fi=51549011

It seems that price will be a big factor and that the war is far from over.

Content providers will follow players, and by players I mean players which are garaunteed to be used for content which they sell.

HD DVD
HD-A2
#4
HD-XA2
#6

Sony BDP-S1
#32
Samsung BD-P1000
#39

Just wait until the HD-A20 is released, then there will be 3 HD DVD players in the top 10 selling DVD players on amazon. But then again we'll have to remember what our Blu-Ray pals say "Sales rank don't matter unless Blu-Ray is ahead"

Don't you mean game systems? Most of which are likely not going to be plugged into an HDTV? And even then, most of which won't likely buy BD movies unless there are no games to buy like here?

What???

Oh and sorry but the ps3 won't sell out in Europe .The launch has been a fiasco and things will only get worse since it is way too expensive here.

That's quite the bargain. I recently paid $100 more on a universal DVD player!

Hahaha I knew it wouldn't take look for the Blu-ray Brigade to crash the party.

HD DVD is doing just fine and April brings in even lower pricing and the A20. Things are looking good. In late may we'll be watching The Matrix Trilogy. A series made for adults while Blu-ray'ers will be watching PotC a show made for kids.

Is that the one without HDi implementation, without Java 1.1 capabilities and no support for the advanced codecs (except I think TrueHD 2 channel)?

We really should try to look at what the actual sales are for the rankings. I posted this in a similar thread yesterday (except that I've now added the stock change for yesterday):

As far as what the ranking on Amazon for the HD-A2 means, there are stock numbers here:

http://www.eproductwars.com/products...2265000151.cfm

that probably give us a good idea of how many Amazon is selling. If you click on the second graph down on the left side you can put your mouse over the graph and see the stock number and the date and time. It looks like sales picked up the last couple of days. That graph supports this for the sales each day:

March 17th: 9
March 18th: 19
March 19th: 18
March 20th: 44
March 21th: 26
March 21th: 31

By comparison, I think "The Departed" on HD DVD sold a couple hundred or more on its release day (not counting preorders) and now that sales for it have slowed down (with its ranking dropping from the 20s to 460), it looks like it is selling about 21 copies a day on HD DVD. "Casino Royale" looks like it averaged around 300 per day for its first week.

The player I'm talking about is actually the Denon DVD-2930 SD DVD/SACD/DVD-A player. For HD, I have an HD-A2 and a PS3.

My comment was referring to how well-priced the HD-XA2 is when I paid more for an SD DVD player. The Toshiba is probably one of the best bargains today in consumer electronics.

to apply your own twisted logic - since the hd dvd players aren't sold out on amazon they can't be doing too well. this year has been a disaster for hd dvd.

latest figures show a 4:1 ratio of bd software sales to hd dvd.

btw npd have stated that standalone sales of both formats (excluding add-on and ps3) are virtually even.

It's foolish to compare

Casino Royale- an exclusive title

and

The Departed- a title that is supported on both platform.

This is an Apple's to Oranges comparison. If you want to compare HD Departed vs BD Departed then that makes sense

The sales numbers are pretty bunk right now. Even when you do have the same titles across both platforms there is a price difference between them due to Combo on HD DVD which skews the results a bit.

Facts are the HD DVD players are indeed selling consistently. We've already seen BD lovers attempting to discredit the Amazone rankings and others that embrace them. The numbers aren't lying..the players "are" selling. When you look at Serenity and Batman Begins hovering around in the Top 15 you know that new users are grabbing those titles.

And you believe that...... The only Blu Ray player that even came close was Samsung and that was last summer before ppl saw the PQ. It's all PS3..

Of course he does. He hasn't had an orginal thought seens he's registered here.

Listen to what he's attempting to state.

Standalone Blu-ray players are even
The PS3 then would be +2 million

So the logical person would indeed question then why, with a 2+ million player surplus and movie surplus only adds to a 3:1 or even a 4:1 ratio.

If these aforementioned numbers are correct the aside from CR and some other Blockbusters HD in general would not be doing that good.
So you guys believe
A) Toshiba is selling the most Stand alone players(what is it a 6:1 lead?)
B) PS3 owners are not using their system for movies

How do you explain the 3:1 BD disc sales lead over HD-DVD?
