In my experience the UST tend to break more easily. BFA shouldn't loosen unless you are pulling them in and out often, and the compression fit does make better mechanical connection and well as having more surface area. I'd recommend the silver connections, they do sound better.

Dave, thanks for your input! I just picked up the Mozart Grands yesterday and noticed the pair was packaged together from Sumiko. Does this imply sequential serial numbers? I have yet to open the box cause I'm out of town still (had to buy these in LA - 3hrs away from San Luis Obispo).

Hi all, I purchased Mozart Grands in black about 2 months ago and they are great. I have had a Maestro Grand on order for 2 months (it should be in next week). Despite the long wait, mostly due to BBM screwing up the order I am considering purchasing the Waltz Grands for my surrounds. My surrounds need to be on floor stands. Has anyone mounted their Waltz speakers on stands and if so what make of stands?

Serial numbers are sequential on speakers sold by the pair (Haydn, Bach, etc). This is not true for Webern, Waltz, centers, etc.

They should work fine, but why not Haydns?

Oh, the reason I asked is because the speaker boxes came taped together with packaging taped that read "Do not break apart" and "Wrapped by Sumiko".

Heh, same thing happened to me. I should've had them 3 weeks ago. Apparently, no one approved the "ORCA" order. I should have them this coming Friday though.

I went with the Haydens for surrounds.

Since you are commited to the Waltz's though, I would contact SoundAnchors.com. They fabricate all of their own products, and can do so for you within reason. I purchased a custom CC stand from them for my Maestro.

Everything is still a mess (been busy), but I should have everything like wall plates etc ready to go by the time speakers get here.

Hi All,

I am hoping that I could get some of your expert opinions?
First of all I want to say how first class this forum is! All of you are willing to help each other.
Now for my questions - I have the Beethovens and Bachs along with the Sunfire MKII.
I have recently moved and have the oppurtunity to build a theatre room downstairs.
I was running the system with the B&K AVR 202, the dealer here says that it is a great amp - but it will not work for the theatre system I want to use it for.
What receivers do you suggest I look at for a good quality system?
Appreciate any help or insight!
Best Regards,
Ed

That center channel stand is absolutely perfect! It appears like the height will almost be identical to the towers in relation to the drivers. sound anchors did a great job on that one. anyway, the setup is lookin better every day!

Hi Fanaticalism,

Where did you buy your floor stands?

Thanks,
Ed

Hey Ed. Not sure if you are referring to the speakers, the stands the speakers are on, or the CC stand.

The stands on the VA's came with them. The stand for CC I purchased from SoundAnchors.com. As for the speakers, I purchased them from Best Buy/Magnolia.

Can't wait for the rest of the speakers to come!

I've been following your system upgrade and I must admit that it looks INCREDIBLE! I'm looking at adding the Elite myself, but I just got the Mozart Grands. Do you do all of your own work?

Hi Bigred 7078,

I want a good receiver - somewhere in the $3-4,000 range.

I have been looking at the Dennon 5308CI.

But open for suggestions.

Thanks,
Ed

Hi Fanaticalism,

When I bought my speakers I did not receive the stands like you did. I like the floor stands you have - well for that matter I like your center channel stand as well.

Does Best buy sell the speaker stands?

Thanks again,
Ed

Thank you.

Yeah, I do everything myself (with some assistance from the wife )

Ed, in that price range, I would do a pre/pro, with external amplification.

Marantz AV8003
Integra 9.9
Onkyo 886

Amp
Emotiva
Wyred4Sound
B&K
Rotel
Parasound

I would start with those brands (What I can remember atm within your budget for both pre/amp

It sounds like you have the previous model Beethovens and Bachs and in that case they did not come with the small little base spikes. The newer models are called Beethoven Grand and Bach Grand. The Beethoven Grand does come with the base spikes.

+1 for these recommendations.

If you really just want to go with just a receiver well then i can't think of a better unit than the Denon 5308ci.

BigRed answered your question before I did, but you could try and get the spikes as a parts order through BB/Mag, or better yet, give Sumiko a call, and see what they say.

Hi guys. Thanks for the ideas. I have considered purchasing the Haydens for surrounds but they would be protruding into a aisle on both sides of the room somewhat. I sort of prefer the thinner profile of the Waltz. I'll contact Sound Anchors & see what they can do for me. Who knows perhaps I can rig them to work on the stands that I have now. I'm using ML Frescos's for the sides on their own stands. The Haydens certainly are a option though.

If you don't need 7 channels of amplification and you want the best AVR I have EVER heard, you need to try to find someone who has Primare. The SPA22 is amazing. At 5k it doesn't have all of the features of the AVR5308 but its smokes it for sound quality. Its the age old conundrum, quality or quantity...

i dunno there Dave, thats a bold statement. I have heard some Primare gear, and although good, its definately not the "bee's knee's" or the greatest sounding equipment around although it is excellent.

This would be a valid argument, if we knew that his room was free of any anomalies, which we all know there is no such thing. That is why RC is so important. What good is a 5k AVR-pre/pro, if the room sucks (not saying that Eds room does)?

I did say it was the best 'AVR' that 'I' have ever heard. And if you haven't heard the latest product, you haven't heard what I've heard. It certainly beats the heck out ANYTHING I've heard from the big Japanese manufacturers. AND that is in head to head comparison.

Good electronics are good electronics. In a god-awful switching room with cheap commercial construction, the SPA22 was clearly the leader. It had a sense of space and atmosphere that I normally associate with high-end seperates.

AND, I have never heard an automatic EQ system that did as much good as it did bad.

Plus, he does have a 4k-ish budget...
Hi Guy's,

I appreciate all the feedback and information.
I am going to do my best to make it sound great.
The room was built for a theatre in mind.
I will call Sumiko to see what they say about the spike bases.
Thanks again guy's for the input. I like the to read everyone's opinions.

My intention is not to get into a back and forth on this matter Dave, but I just wanted to point out a couple of things.

FIrst and foremost, I think we can all agree that this can be extremely subjective. Or you wouldn't of went out of your way in your response to BigRed to emphasize that it was YOUR opinion, but now with the statement "good electronics are good electronics", seems to imply that the Primare is superior, and no longer is an opinion.

As far as room correction, you said you have never "heard" one that did as much good as it did bad. I noticed you said "heard", have you taken any in room response measurements to insure there were no user errors, or to see that maybe you just don't prefer a flat response?
