Best LCD on the market as of now?

Thread Starter
When I used to visit these forums almost everday from November-Jan '07. The best LCD was generally agreed upon to be the XBR3 by Sony (if you got a non-cloudy one), so I bought one and mine was defective and had clouds. Thus, I returned it. And decided to wait it out to March-April.

Now that there are new LCDs on the market, is the XBR3 still the best LCD HDTV as of now? Or has the Samsung 65F or 61F series taken over (which just came out, I think).

Good post, im at work right now so i will keep it short. Look at the refresh rates of some of the newer LCD's and price, make sure you get a set that supports 1.3 HDMI and get what looks good to you dont let other bully you : ). IMO after calabration the xbr3 is still the king of LCD's I love mine even though it was expensive i have no regrets and no clouds, yet to see a set that matches its intense PQ on HD content, SD is subpar but who watches SD any more : )~

The new Samsungs are pretty fresh, but so far nobody seems to be making any major beefs about them...

idk, I think you should wait a couple more months, since Sony, Sharp, and Philips are going to be releasing new models.

Lets not forget JVC. They will be introducing 42 & 47", 1080p, 120hz, HDMI 1.3a models in Sept. - some smaller sets as well.

Best Value LCD - Perhaps Olevia - especially the HQV model.

Best LCD as a HT panel - that so far has no major flaws and terrific blacks? Samsung "T" Series.

Numerous reports of Banding and/or Clouds on the Sharp/Sony LCD's and in fact dedicated Loooong threads to those issues on both Sharp D62/92 and Sony XBR's (Clouds).

Best panel unreported? Sony 70" I would guess but who has $33K? No owners thread but top of the heap for Lotto winners or Goldman Sachs Mgrs.

JVC future are spec's driven at this point and the history of specs alone have not been good at all - let's remember whose providing the glass which I believe is LG Philips as I don't think JVC does it's own mother glass and so can we expect dramatic improvements with others have done with that glass and remember the history of JVC is to be months late on debuting from their scheduled panels - in 2.5 years I cannot recall anytime they've met their planned dates. One can hope they match the spec's though.

Westinghouse? Value Yes but I don't know anyone that put it at the top of the list but those that had the limited budget to have anything better - I've never seen one on display that said "Buy Me" but again I'm comparing it to a 57" and 45" Sharp's with no flaws and size with PQ blows away the Westinghouse at a price premium of course. Not intended to be arrogant just a fact that budget limits drive Westinghouse sales and I don't have a Westinghouse budget and if I did I'd be matching it up with the Olevia.

Does anyone know if there are new LCD's coming in (Edit, was 52") 53"-60" size? The only current ones that I know of are the Sharp 57" D90U and Samsung 57 97D but they have been on the market for a while and are getting a bit long in the tooth. Plus pricing for these remains at a significant premium over 52" models. Any chance for some newer models with sub-4K street pricing?

Just out is the 52" Samsung LN-T5265F .

Having seen the newest panels from Sharp/Sony and the dramatic improvements in black detail and color control over just the last gen, I would say wait one more gen. It can only get better.

Mkoesel, I thought that Sharp was coming out with an upgrade of the 57" panel sometime soon. Check the Sharp website under press releases for TVs, thought that was where I had seen it.

You need to review your comments on JVC. JVC panels are produced by Samsung not LG Phillips. They have consistently released ON-TIME. Their next scheduled release date is Sep. Read the user threads, little to no user complaints.

They appear to pass and surpass their specs. HDTVs from Hitachi, JVC, and Pioneer are the ONLY tested sets that have passed all deinterlacing and 3:2 pull down tests. Other manufacturers have 'hit or miss' performance when tested. http://www.hometheatermag.com/hookmeup/1106hook/

Check the rateings: Rated #1 flat-panel for HD by Consumer Reports. Dec 2006. This was not a fluke....... another JVC was rated #2 in Feb 2006.

"While no LCD TVs make the cut in the Ultimate Choice category, the magazine does name the JVC LT-46FN97, Sharp AQUOS LC-37D40U and Sony BRAVIA KDL-46XBR2 as Premier Choices." Ultimate AV Mag. Dec 2006 on LT-46FN97 http://www.consumersearch.com/www/el...v/reviews.html

I would get a W.H. but knowing I would have to ship the bloody beast to California if anything goes bad and hearing stories about customers having to wait 15 weeks for a replacement is a deal breaker for me.

You're right, there's a new one coming in April. But it appears to be Japan only. I'm sure it'll make its way over eventually. Can't come soon enough, IMHO. The old 57" D90 (and the 65") don't even accept 1080p at any frequency, on any input. This might have been ok a year and half ago, but today its a glaring omission.
