Ok Kei here is a tough one. Do you know when you might have the 4100 available to order on the website?

Digital Connection will accept orders any day of the week. Order delivery is another matter completly. Keeping you informed about order delays is not their strong point at all.

How about a nice hot cup of coffee, Mr. Reis. I sound like you without the Java infusion in the morning.
the complaints about Digital Connection have no bearing on this thread - let's get it back on topic.

Ripnickus,

The pre-order pageis now on-line, but I'm still trying to get information on the add-on HDTV tuner and whether it will be available at the same time or not before it is added to our home page. I'm hoping to get an answer by Monday.

This player sounds fantastic!

Is this due in summer then ? or april/may time?

i guess the ultimate question for me is whether or not this player will support mkv (h264 and subtitles)

Excellent. Thanks Kei. BTW, I have no qualms about ordering from DC.

Never a problem for me. Awhile ago when I purchased the MDP-120 ( or maybe the later 130) , it was put on backorder and I received an email within a day or two. Other item's I've ordered iin the past (that I knew were on backorder when ordered) would ship before they changed their back-order status. It made for a happy surprise.

Sorry for being a noob but i have a quick question

the spec list says that this player supports h264 HD

but i've heard it doesnt support the mkv container

but isn't h264 primilary used within the mkv container?

so would this make the player pretty uselesss for h264 playback if this is the guess?

or how easy would it be to release an update to allow for support of mkv

this is the only thing that will make me get an HTPC over the TVIX (mkv playback)

I wouldn't even suggest from where you are getting your H264/mkv files from
Couldn't care much though, as there is always de-muxers which are fast and efficient. There is however one more operation involved.

C'mon, let's keep the insinuations and other crap out of this thread. He asked a simple question to which you don't have the answer.

Regarding the M-4100SH and M-5100SH, am I understanding correctly that the only difference now is the form factor and perhaps the included HD? It looks like a tuner can be added to both now. Is HighPost's answer (M-4100SH can only watch, while M-5100SH has DVR functions) still the best answer?
Quick question.
Will the 4100 support high bitrate H264? I'm talking about ~20mbps not the stuff dish is putting out now.

hehe... sry if I offended anyone.

As far as I know the 4100/5100 will not playback mkv files, at least not yet. It might come in future if DVICO see that very many of us want it. Can't be that hard to implement.
And if you do have a mkv file you can always de-mux as I said, into a normal avi-file coded in H264 with 1 audio file and separate subtitle file (.srt f.ex).
It is of course a cumbersome (well, it takes a little time and space) procedure, but it's fairly easy.

As to 4100/5100 differences you could add a tuner to either version if you purchased one without the tuner, or you can buy one with tuner integrated (4010/4030 or 5110/5130).
I would suggest that you buy one without the HDD to save some money, and hence buy a seperate HDD and Tvix and install it yourself.

Based on this link:
http://www.tvix.co.kr/Eng/products/tunert430.aspx

I would think the only differance is form factor and the link basically says it has DVR functionality. Which is nice because I would not have bought the tuner but now I think I will for the DVR functionality.
Both tuners have the same DVR capability, the only differences is one tunes DVB-T and the other ATSC.

Kei,

Any confirmation these new boxes will playback high bitrate H.264 1920x1080 transport streams as many of us are hoping?

Thanks

qz3fwd,

Your guess is about as good as mine at this point until we are able to test the units. What source files are hoping to play?

Just thought I let you know the link for T410 ATSC Add-On HDTV Tuner for M4100SH on the Digital Connection website currently returns a 404 error.

Kei,

I just visited your site looking for the Pre-order of 4100/5100.
Is it correct that you only plan to take in and sell 4100, as I only could find that model?

I was kinda hoping for the 5100-model

Thanks!

M.

furthermore, it allows you to add it to the shopping cart, and it's not tagged as pre-order. are they already for sale? or forgot to tag it?
The HDTV tuner is a pre-order with the M4100SH and will ship at the same time. Overlooked is a better term.

As for the page, I don't have much information on the tuner so the link now goes back to the M4100SH page.

not sure if anyone else received an email or still even cares about tvixbox...

looks like their first shipment will be the end of the month/early next month. they won't be beta units. in turn of getting it at a discounted price, you gotta write a review. looks like the first shipment will only be the 4100 -- no word on the 5100 yet. HDD will not be included. no word on the tuners either.

"special offer" of $275 shipped from tvixbox (not sure about regular price). $335 shipped from dc (for me, at least). -- not trying to start anything, lol. business is business.

i asked tvixbox about return protocol for these, regular price, 5100 availability, and tuner availability. awaiting the email now.
I've been told that the M5100 model will ship the following month. My dilemma is that the form factor seems not as popular as the standard rectagular box and costs a little more, but we need to commit to the same minimum order quantity. I'm afraid it will move slowly as both boxes now basically have the same features. If there are enough requests, I may reconsider.
to think about it, these updated models of the 4000/5000 seem to be essentially identical now. i originally wanted to get the 5000 because i think it had more features than the 4000 and cylindrical form factor is just awesome -- really thinking outside the box.

now it seems the form factor is what's going to bump up the price -- the 5100 will be more expensive than the 4100, correct? i might as well suppress my want for the 5100; i'll end up saving some money. besides, it's tough to find a proper place for a cylindrical tower in the home theater.

i guess it kinda sucks that there must be certain products to be in stock.

Yeah, they seems indentical in functionality etc. The tuners also have the same functionality, but again the form-factor.
I also find the cylindrical form to be awesome, but for me even better suited in my home theater. The small FF of the 4100 do not correspond to any of the other 43cm devices I have in there...

Anyone know of any European retailers?

I have been asking for pre-sales info on the 4100 / 5100 and have been helped out quite a bit from a fellow named Jimmy Seo. He could not provide me at the moment any info in regards to maximum bitrate for the H.264 1920x1080 transport stream but he did supply me with user manuals for both the 4100 and the 5100. Cant wait

I found a free file hosting site hope it works out. If you want take a peek you can get user manuals here:

Well congratulations you got accepted for the review process. I replied to the email and never got a response.oh well, I was going to jump into it and take a chance, now I can wait and find out if it's worth it!

So, you are going through with the review process? If so, can't wait for your findings!

Thanks. I've been waiting for them to put manuals on their website.
